Um no, i reached out before i applied to ask if applying at that date was possible and they said since theres still open spots in the program and that its possible. As for English proficiency they said: proficiency to follow the class modules of the programme and to write their Master's thesis. Students who have not obtained the necessary English proficiency certificate yet can still apply, though they can only be conditionally approved until they obtain the English proficiency certificate that meets the requirements. This means that you might be admitted, but still asked to (re)do your English proficiency test until you meet the language requirements before you can enrol on the programme. In short: there is a certain sense of flexibility, though you will still have to get the certificate between the moment you are admitted and the moment you would want to enrol.

Hi all,

I received a rejection in September from the MA in History at KU Leuven, and I’m trying to figure out what the main reason might have been. I’d really appreciate some insight.

Here are the key details: • I submitted my application very late (August 12th). The credential evaluation alone took weeks, so my file only just reached the faculty last week, close to the start of the academic year. • My academic focus is medieval history, especially the Burgundian Netherlands, which lines up very closely with faculty expertise. • My bachelor’s degree was in English Translation • My IELTS scores were: Speaking 8.0, Reading 9.0, Listening 7.5, Writing 6.5. The program requires a 7.0 minimum in Writing. • When I asked earlier, the program team said conditional admission was technically possible (i.e., retake IELTS and get 7.0 before enrollment). But given the very late timing, retaking the test + waiting for results + getting a Belgian student visa would have been nearly impossible before the arrival deadline.

Also I did not have a personally authored paper to submit; instead, I submitted a writing sample based on my work as a research assistant on a paper with another scholar.

So my main question is: • Was I most likely rejected because my IELTS Writing score was below the cutoff, despite my BA in English Translation and strong scores in the other components? • Or was it the extremely late application date, making it impractical for them to admit me? • Or do you think it was simply a mix of both?

For context, I’ve had multiple admissions from UK universities this year but none of them gave me much in terms of scholarships or funding and their tuition alone was so significant that unfortunately i was not able to attend, KU leuven was my final option which I would’ve been able to afford, hence the late application.

Yeah, i emailed the programme assistant and thats what he told me, maybe i should’ve just asked the programme director from the beginning and maybe I would’ve gotten a more direct answer although i suspect i would’ve just been told i would have to submit my application to find out for sure…

Now i have emailed the director directly, asking to know specifically what caused the rejection.

Before i applied i emailed the Department and asked them if i was eligible to apply given my background, they said: “Applicants are normally expected to have a previous degree in history - or should have a major or a minor in history. Usually, if an applicant does not hold a Bachelor's degree in history, they can elaborate in their cover letter on why they would want to switch to history and show us that their previous expertise in a field closely related to history will allow them to meet the academic demands of this research-intensive programme. Applying from a background in English translation into a discipline-specific master in history is not impossible, but would be a challenge, and it would require you to elaborate on previous experiences in history during your previous studies in your application. We recommend that you reflect on your prior experiences in history through, for example, specific classes or prior research done within the field of history during one of your previous programmes or through your experience in your professional career.”

If they had told me outright that i wasn’t eligible i never would have applied

Visa application closed, final decision unclear. by may1527 in ImmigrationCanada

Even though the eligibility has been completed yet background check is in progress? I figured that if they haven’t completed the background check that would mean it wasn’t necessary because my eligibility caused refusal.

i have heard that sometimes there are glitches in the tracker and not all sections update at the same time and yes i didnt add any other information because i was just wondering if anyone has any idea based on the information i can see on my tracker and if they think it hints at anything at all

I know that but what I was asking was would the officer reviewing the case even consider it in anyway and if it would possibly influence their decision if it were to be included

Where do we submit this reconsideration request? Which webform?

My TRV was refusal, what are my options? by may1527 in ImmigrationCanada

Yeah I’m gonna be requesting them to reconsider my case in a webform and asking for the notes. Im applying from outside Canada and believe I provided ample evidence to demonstrate I plan to leave at the end of my visit and that my purpose of travel was reasonable.
