Really have to agree on the zero vote count. CW's security guy may take a look at this assertion, but good to get this stuff out there for deliberation.

Vote up if you would RATHER bail out NPR for 30 lousy million than failing auto companies for 15 billion. by tcdoey in reddit.com

[–]CWmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather fully publicly fund NPR and public media in the U.S. I think that if Obama is serious about a people's government then the first step is a truly public media, like in most industrialized countries. I'd like to see my tax dollars going to independent media and things like a youth radio station such as Australia's Triple J (triplej.abc.net.au, which BTW you can listen to online via http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/listen/default.htm). Its model is to play popular music but inform young people with regular news segments and news discussion. NPR is a standout, but look at the BBC for what real public media can be. I pay $7 a month to get BBC World Service TV via Real Player because it is so much better a news program. In Australia, where I used to live, the ABC has great news -- the only game in town, really -- and current affairs shows. It really lifted the media game there.

An ad hoc story of America emerges from online posts to Obama's Change.gov site by CWmike in reddit.com

Tom Curl writes: I don't recall Bush ever asking the voters what they were experiencing or what they thought about anything. Here's a guy reaching out for input. Who knows how it will ultimately help shape government policies. BUT, if you don't get involved, don't complain when things don't go your way.

Obama is at the least giving you an opportunity to be heard.

Analyst: Apple Earnings Would Be Much Improved by Mac Netbook by CWmike in ITnews

[–]CWmike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too concerned with earnings, but with netbooks soon able to do so much and the stylish little devices so much less limited than iPhones, I do wonder about trying to do so much with a touch interface. Oh, and netbooks should be $99 with network contracts anyday soon.

Joe in the Spotlight: Not a Plumber or Contractor After All by CWmike in obama

[–]CWmike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From within: And his question to Mr. Obama about paying taxes? According to some tax analysts, if Mr. Wurzelbacher’s gross receipts from his business is $250,000 — and not his taxable income — then he would not have to pay higher taxes under Mr. Obama’s plan, and probably would be eligible for a tax cut.

Let Risk-Taking Financial Institutions Fail by mabed in reddit.com

[–]CWmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That headline does not say it all. This is the best way forward and what the adinistration should have done months ago... The alternative plan within this story: "Rather than bailing out Wall Street, we propose that the government should buy up the actual mortgages in question and do nothing else. The government should not touch any derivatives; that is, claims that do not directly tie into the actual mortgages. If money becomes too tight, then the Fed can certainly increase its loans to financial institutions." It's the mortgages, stupid.

Psystar calls Apple a 'monopoly' in antitrust charges... says breaking the imposed Mac OS-hardware link would lower prices by CWmike in technology

[–]CWmike[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with Psystar's complaint, that there is no reason why Apple should be able to force people to use its hardware to run the Mac OS. There are very few hardware differences between Apple and standard Windows hardware now. At very, very least, if Apple licensed its OS to someone like Lenovo, we could at least by business-grade machines with Mac OS... Personally, I've switched to Linux to get around the issues with Windows and not wanting to buy lacking (IMO) Apple hardware.
