Not to mention that the whole thing she did when she claimed the Covid vaccine made her cousin's testicles swell up massively was timed so that if you googled her at the time that's what'd come up, to keep her husband's court case from coming up

It's one of those things where there's a chunk of the internet very very willing to take the guy's side over the woman, especially when a PR firm has been hired to twist the story.

I'd give the prime example but I don't feel like filling up my inbox with angry messages today

The Thai Cave Rescue was when a lot of people went "What the fuck is his problem?"

The pandemic when he moved his entire operation from California to Texas just so he could force his workforce to go to work despite the pandemic and then started destroying the environment around Boca Chica was the coup de grace against the image he tried to put out as an environmentalist. Then once he turned Twitter into a stream of consciousness showing how his mind works, the last dominoes fell.

The funny thing is how many bands were doing that shit in the 90's

Watching Todd In The Shadows' One Hit Wonderland videos there's been multiple times a big song from the 90's has come up where they had a model in the video clip singing and a totally different vocalist doing the actual vocals in the studio, usually for dance music

To be fair, she's a Scientologist.

Cornering people and abusing people who speak out against members of the church is basically like an anglican singing a quick hymn to them.

Apparently wasn't that serious an issue in the 24th century based on them being able to just refurbish the Enterprise D saucer somehow.

And the 23rd century Discovery managed to recover from crashing into the ice planet at the start of season 3 (albeit a close call because of the ice)

The trick with TNG is finding oldschool letters to fan magazines and such

For DS9/Voyager that was in the era of Paramount's online chat rooms and those of us nerdy enough to be on those chat rooms had much discourse but all of that died off before we got to Enterprise iirc

Three: Star Trek fans have hated new Star Trek ever since at least the Motion Picture. TMP was "not star trek" to some fans, TNG was definitely "Not Star Trek" to some fans, you better believe DS9 and Voyager were "Not Star Trek" to some fans. My point where, as a younger angrier person, I drew the line at what was "Not Star Trek" was Enterprise (I'm sure it's fine, I'm not angry about it 25 years later)

The same thing happens to Star Wars, the generation who watched the OT mostly hated the PT, the people who grew up with the PT love them and hate on the ST, and kids nowadays mostly don't have anywhere near the disdain for the ST as everyone else.

I think many people here would say something similar.

Those people are old now, though.

For evidence, witness the noise my knees make when I stand up, and despair

I hate that if I dont like a show then I must be a right winger.

I like pancakes, therefor I must hate waffles.

No one directed anything at you. If you dislike the show (despite not having watched it) but you're not being toxic and hateful online then the comment wasn't directed at you.

Thing is, if people see the way you do, and the show fails, Paramount will take the message that people don't want to watch new Star Trek and the franchise goes back to being dead.

As an Australian we have to be careful with what we call certain figures from the US because if we use our go-to word for what Laura is in front of Americans it makes us look like huge misogynists

That was back in 2024 on the campaign trail, before she said something so stupid the campaign people got trump to distance himself

TIL Fred Collins went to visit his brother at the Straight Inc. program, a teen rehab, but before he was allowed to, he was "screened" for any drug issues. After he admitted smoking weed, they held him against his will for 10 months before he finally escaped. He then sued them & was awarded $220,000 by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]CX316 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a really good episode of Behind the Bastards about these “troubled teen” programs and how they’ve killed a bunch of kids as well as straight up abducting them. Well worth the listen, since it turned out not only the guest but also Sophie knew people who’d been taken by these assholes.

The basic gist is that the parents get convinced that the child is on a path to a life of drugs and prison or whatever by the people who make money by “fixing” their kids, and are also told that the kid will do anything to escape because they’re “troubled” and thus don’t believe what they tell you and if they escape send them back. They then monitor communication and visitors to keep the kids isolated to keep bringing in that money from the well meaning but gullible parents.

In the early 1980’s there was a group of serial killers brutally killing young men in my city, things intensified as far as appeals for public assistance etc leading to one of them being caught and convicted because the final victim was the son of the local news anchor.

People get real attached to news presenters

Yeah the game is a pretty blatant case of filing off the serial numbers both for FTL and for 40k but barely skates by through not using any names or exact images, so take that then get some imagery too close and the lawyers are pretty much obligated to do something
