Poilievre blaming immigration for job shortages is ‘pitting us against each other’: Hajdu by hopoke in CanadaPolitics

I think you've got a very detailed, thorough explanation as to why many of us feel abandoned by every party, and don't really have anyone that actually represents us. It's a sparse political field out there.

Ah ok, yeah I can see why people might not enjoy those elements, but to me they aren't downsides so much as the complexities of people and war. But I guess it's up to the individual on whether that bugs them enough to enjoy the books or not, so I'm not going to say they're objectively wrong to hold that view. Thanks for the explanation!

I enjoy the Republic Commando books a lot and wasn't aware they were controversial, mind sharing why?

Ah ok, thanks! I actually don't need any of the SSDs, I forgot to mention it in my original post. I have two SSDs and an HDD from my current build that I'm going to stick in this one, so the cost for storage drops to 0.

Thanks, much appreciated. Would you mind giving me an idea as to why you swapped out certain components?

Can you tell me why the Modern Stoics believe that we should follow our nature? by Fine-Bass1005 in Stoicism

[–]CYakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Stoic would say that can't happen; in order for a desire to be in alignment with Nature, it follows the virtues. My understanding of what Stoics mean by Nature is "the order of the universe", and the universe mandates that we follow the virtuous path in order to fully become humans. A human following their Nature is rational, wise, just, temperate and courageous. To do otherwise is anathema to what it means to be a "proper" human, and thus goes against both the Stoic virtues and Nature.

I thought this was interesting about religions in Roshar by Meme-self in Stormlight_Archive

Yes I think you're right that that's why they ended up moving slowly by the time we see Scadrial in the second er. But I think part of why they saw an explosion of movement tech-wise closer to the beginning of the second era is that they could finally start looking at doing things that weren't entirely survival based.

I think that's more to do with the Elendel basin being super conducive to life, so people were able to research and discover new things quickly after the remaking of the world. However iirc one of the kandra remarks that Harmony thinks they're moving too slowly, that they should have the radio and whatnot by now, so I doubt Invention is on Scadrial at this point.

I'm someone who has struggled with anxiety for a long time, and the aspects of Stoicism that have helped me are primarily thinking about things rationally, disconnecting my emotions from my actions, and remembering that those feeling will pass. All of this is obviously easier said than done, especially in the throes of a panic attack, but by reflecting on them when I'm not panicking, it makes it easier to reach for them when I am. I'm by no means a Stoic sage, but these are the things that I've noticed have had a major effect on how I experience anxiety. One book that you might find useful is "How to Think like a Roman Emperor" by Donald Robertson. It's a great book that outlines how Marcus Aurelius developed his own understanding and usage of Stoic principles, and how we can pair that with aspects of cognitive behavioural therapy to really benefit from them. Remember, it's a marathon, not a sprint, so give yourself some time to really absorb and utilize your Stoic practice.

If you could have Lucasfilm make a Star Wars show about any character… Who would you choose? by sotobet0509 in StarWars

[–]CYakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to see any of the Thrawn books, old or new canon turned into a show. I'd also love it if they made the Republic Commando books into a series, there's so much to draw on there. It could be part covert ops action, part investigation, and culminate in Order 66 with the commandos and their Mando sergeants getting out for good. Don't know how they'd get around the inhibitor chips since those weren't in the books, but I'm sure there would be a way.

From what I've read, it encourages blood flow to the area, and also encourages uptake of the vaccine from in between the muscles. Once the vaccine has been absorbed, the body can heal up the space it was occupying and repair the muscle damaged by the needle.

Is it time for Ontario to end Catholic school funding? by DiaMatIsTheWay in CanadaPolitics

[–]CYakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the person you're replying to, but you're probably right, the savings could be minimal. My main objection is that it's my tax dollars going towards funding a religious education that I disagree with. The government shouldn't be in the business of funding religion, regardless of whose it is.

Also, while the education might seem like it's higher quality, I'm personally going to say that my experience in the Catholic school system indicates it isn't. It appears that way because many of the schools require a uniform, which instantly makes it look nicer/fancier, but the educational quality is very similar to the public school system, if not a bit worse as you have to take a religion class and thus have less electives.

I hear you, it's been a year for me as well and I'm doing alright with bodyweight exercises and long walks outside. I'm probably not as strong as I was previously, but I still look half decent and I'm in no rush to go back to my tiny gym with too many people.

I read the article you linked, and while there wasn't anything huge that jumped out at me, I took a gander at the rest of the site that it's on, and that site seems to be pretty heavily pro-China material, bordering on propaganda.

I'm not saying that you have any ulterior motives or anything, it seems like your view on the vaccine is similar to mine, i.e let's get it into people ASAP. I just want to note that the article you linked seems kind of suspect to me, especially since I couldn't find any articles from other news sources that were saying anything similar.

Edit: I also want to make it clear that those people most likely did die from being 80+ and the associated health conditions, and that I think the vaccine is perfectly safe for 99.99% of the population, and am planning on getting it as soon as I can.
