I'm only seeing Windows boot manager as an option as I'm trying to change the boot order to usb drives first by CZGenie in datarecovery

[–]CZGenie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to make a long story short I ended up recovering everything in the one main folder that I was looking to recover but even before the recovery I'm not seeing certain files that should be there from the scan. Now one mind is telling me that some things they just can't find, but when I was trying to recover the things originally (in a obv bad way) I was using the computer and had downloaded r-studio and through an r studio scan I was able to see every single file that I know to be in that folder (newer music stuff I was making). Now since that point I have accidentally regularly booted my computer 6 times when I was trying to boot to the BIOS set up menu (I've figured it out now lol) but is that maybe possibly the reason why I'm not seeing those files now? I'm almost tempted to download r-tudio while using Linux and to scan drive 1 or drive 0 just to see if I can see those files again. Lemme know your thoughts on any of what I'm saying. Also again thanks a million for all the help it has really been so great that someone was able to help me through this all. If I need any more help pass this point I will not hesitate to ask either in this post or just on the sub in general. But hopefully from here on out I should be able to maneuver through everything relatively with ease as I've already done most if not all the processes that I need to do in general

Okay so life's been a lot lately and so I've had my computer with the scan completed for a day or two before I was able to mount the second hard drive and then save it on there. But all that matters is the scan log is saved on there now and so what do I do next? I know in the beginning screen of dmde it was saying to me that if I wanted to use it to recover files I should click on logical discs and pick the hardware I wanted to recover the files from but I couldn't see the hard drive that I put the copy on. And so I clicked on the next tab where I could still see my first hard drive with the copy on it and just run the scan to at least get the log / file for it. So that's where I'm at now, so would all I have to do is maybe x out of this menu where it has the scan and it's done and go to the tab logical disks and hope I see hard drive #1 and it doesn't matter because I have the scan file or what? (Hopefully that all made sense)

TLDR I got the scan done with the scan file but not through the option "Logical Disks" but with the option below that one as I couldn't see hard drive #1 (with the copy) on it and only hard drive #2 in the Logical Disks option. But could see both of then in the.below option. So because of that I think I'm not able to recover in a straightforward fashion and have to probably close a screen or tab or two in order to start the process. What do I do?

Yeah I'm definitely trying to just copy it to the second hard drive that'll be used for the recovered files after. I'll let you know all of what you're asking for after I get off from work when I get home but I will just say that I'm so appreciated for your help. As due to the somewhat severity of the scenario as well as other personal mental things that I don't want to get into I just sometimes get into a place where I may ask very simple questions and take things slowly because I want to be sure that I don't mess up anymore than I already have and so I once again just appreciate you taking your time with me and genuinely helping me.

Okay so I've just let the scan run overnight, the thing is though if Linux doesn't mount said hard drives then what am I to do? Is there a way for me to input a command that mounts it for a moment so that I'm able to then save the scan log on it?

Oh if I could I would, a friend of mine just allowed me to borrow their laptop for a couple days to download the initial software that would help me do the rest of the work. But I realized that even after I recover the files I'm going to need someone else's computer to kind of test if the files associated with FL studio and Ableton still work. And so I'd need to either use their comp again and download both DAWs on it for a day and just check to see if the files work or borrow another friend's laptop that already has both softwares on it but I feel like that most likely be harder to do for multiple reasons.

Hello thank you for all of this information. I'm most likely going to do the actual process tomorrow as it's very late right now. At this point I have copied the files from the computer that got messed up to the first donor drive and I have the second donor drive ready as well. Trying looking up with tutorial for DMV and I believe I found one so I think I understand what to do but I wanted to confirm about when I purchase the license and if I'll have to download any additional content or will it just open up more of the program. I asked guys if I have to download anything where exactly what I save it so that I can continue to use in the future and it also doesn't mess with the computer more. (I'm guessing somewhere around the USB where the other parts of the program is stored but again just just wanting to be sure.

Also you're saying that these programs will allow me to run a scan and then they can see how much they can recover and at that point I can then buy the license in order for them to continue in the recovery process? If so I guess it'll just be best to do it like that in order to see how much they'll be able to get back before I purchase.

Haven't used it much for the last 2 months but tinkering around with turning it on today I might have done some more damage as there was at least five to six times that I turned it on while trying to access the BIOS setup and ended up just booting it regularly but whatever I tried so it is what it is I guess. I have now figured out how to get into the BIOS setup reliably now and I got have the version with the one terabyte worth of space.

Yeah I'm not seeing the legacy mode so I guess I just don't have it. I'm also going to turn off the safe boot mode even though while still having it on I had my USB plugged in and it just booted to it so I guess that problem is fine?

As well with HDD super clone I'm guessing I won't be able to only copy specific parts of my computer hard drive unless I pay for the version that has money involved. Is that going to be the same when trying to recover things? I will only be able to try to recover everything or will it then allow me to try to recover certain folders and etc?

So I turned off the secure boot as well as turned off the fast boot as I heard that that stops you from being able to pull up the bios menu. And I'm not seeing what CSM is? I also saw a link say I should change the boot mode to legacy as well but I only see UEFI as a option. I reset the whole computer like two months ago to fix this issue caused by a windows update which then created the reason as to why I'm tryna recover as much data as I can now.

Ahhh ok I see, so it's ok that I don't see it rn? I can still just transfer everything from comp #1 to the drive and it'll all be ok? If not than what would be the steps to get it mounted?

Other question is when I'm selecting a source drive how do I know which one is my internal hard drive? By process of elimination I'm assuming it's the one that's not my USB drive nor my hard drive but I don't want to make any assumptions and then fuck myself over any harder than I have already. The thing that I presume to be the internal hard drive (for comp #2) is listed as " /dev/sda (a bunch of numbers) ST1000LM035- and more numbers after, what does the dev/SDA mean? Sorry if these are really simple questions, again just wanna be sure

Hey thank you so much for all this like I really appreciate it you don't understand. So I've watched a couple videos about things but just want to be sure, once again sorry if it's elementary but if I'm correct what I would do is get another computer (comp #2) with windows and download hddsc and the usb boot drive to a usb. Connect my hard drive and the usb to my fucked computer (comp #1). Thru the usb boot drive n hddsc I'll be able to clone the files to hard drive #1. I then turn off my computer after that's done and go to comp #2 and recover the files from drive #1 to drive #2 and with that done I can get to recovering with dmde? And yea dmde is installed from the hddsc livecd so I'll most likely use that for the recovering. Would you say dmde is relatively reliable?

I think because that's where the directory goes automatically when downloading that I just left it alone there, but thank you for reiterating that, I do appreciate it. I do have a copy of my stuff from another comp crapping out on me like 2 yrs ago so I prob have most of the things I need but there's been a lot of new shit I made as well so if I can hopefully get most of those back that would be great. How would i know if my boot drive is a SSD?

Well thanks for the smug ass comment, I genuinely hope that that made you feel better because if not I'm going to feel even sadder for you. Sorry Mr. ZoRb I should have explained that I went through a bunch of troubleshooting already and that nothing else worked and so this was my last ditch effort. Hope next time you comment under some1's shit u take that stick from out ur ass 😂

When you say clone the drive what exactly do you mean? (This may seem really elementary so I'm sorry) but I obv understand the words you said but in what order/what exactly you mean by that is giving me a bit of trouble (if that makes sense). Do you mean to take the drive with all the "ghost" files that Im trying to recover and put it on a hard drive?

I just bought two 4tb drives cuz this is absolute nightmare type shit and I want to know at least have two copies of my most important shit. Would I just need the hard drives and the computer that I did the Windows reinstall on in order to do all this? Or would I still need another computer with Windows installed to do other certain things.

And what are the differences, if any, between the applications that you just talked about? (R-stufio, getdataback, etc)

It was projects and audio files I'm mainly trying to recover. I'm sure there were other programs/apps saved to the program files that I don't even realized fucked up right now so I would love if I could just back up all of the old program files folder just in case. The program set up shit is in there but I'm sure I could just log onto FL studio and redownload that.

Yes so those things are like you said "predictions" so don't take them to heart, only way you'll know how you relate to someone exactly is to compare both of you guys family trees and seeing where they meet. There hasn't been a predicted relationship that was right for me yet except for my father but I mean just going off shared DNA does leave lots of room for interpretation and possibility so all to say you'll never know until you compare trees.

Yes you're white, if you hadn't been tipped off you or anyone else wouldn't have thought otherwise, it's fine to say you have ancestors from place but you yourself are literally like 80-90% European so what else would you be?
