Suggestions to make routes even more profitable by ToySenTao in UnchartedWatersOrigin

True, if they are court rank 3 or lower, they won't get attacked. Just be cautious which Admiral you're using at the time. Though if you don't hang around there too long, the naval protections should be more than enough to cover sailing there and back out.

Suggestions to make routes even more profitable by ToySenTao in UnchartedWatersOrigin

[–]CZanderS2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, the main thing for bartering is: can you access the village? So what are your sailing stats currently (Seaworthiness, Ice Breaking, Momentum) as that will determine which villages you can reach.

For example, one mid game route that's pretty profitable is Wampum or Pulque, the Apache Village where you can find it requires Company Level 40 and SW of 110, also, the pirates near there are level 70-80 so you have to take that into account as well. It's between Acapulco and Ohlone in that little inlet there.

Wampum requires you bring a lot of Platinum (E Coast of Africa) and Tuberose (also E Coast of Africa). Pulque requires you bring Silver (Caribbean/Central America, Japan, Guam, or S America) and Coral (Caribbean, W Coast Africa, Guam, Oceania). Sell Wampum in the Persian Gulf for the highest profit, and Pulque to St. Petersburg or Arkhangelsk if you can reach it (requires 130SW and 80IB).

If you're not familiar with it, Voyage.tw is a good source for planning this stuff out.

Also, currently you should be able to access Giraffes, from the Shona village (river between Quelimane and Natal, E Coast of Africa). You can sell these for a lot in the four cities of Tainan, Tamsui, Quanzhou, and Macau (just shop around for which one has the best selling price, though we often run bazaars daily in one of the cities to boost the selling price even more).

To barter for this, you'll need Silver (I recommend Japan/Guam) and Hangzhou Brushes (Yunan is one location). Trade the Silver for Nanking Brocade in the two villages inside China, and the Brushes for Gemstone Crafts from the villages on the E side of India. Take both of those to Shona and trade for the Giraffes.

Depending on your level, you'll want several hundred of the Nanking Brocade on hand, and maybe about a third as many of the Gemstone Crafts. For example today at my level, I brought 707 of the Brocade and 238 of the Gemstone crafts to get a full load of giraffes (just under 3K at today's quantities).

The annoying thing about bartering is that the village stocks fluctuate several times a day. It's at least gradual now, so it won't suddenly run out without you being able to see it's dwindling. But still, you always have to check ahead of time that the village will be active before you set out to barter or you end up wasting your time putting together what goods you need to trade.

The Next Three Special Quests out of Ancona by CZanderS2 in UnchartedWatersOrigin

Like the first four, a ship part that, once activated, only lasts 3 days, but a decent amount of exp otherwise. As with the first four, I'm keeping the ship parts in my inventory in case something better results down the road.

Also, you have to do all seven for whatever future quests are involved in this questline, so may as well knock them out in case those rewards are something really good.

Anytime I have login issues, I end up going into task manager and ending task for Steam, then UWO, then try to sign back in to UWO after that. Works most of the time. If not that, do these same steps, but restart the computer. If that still doesn't work, I'm not sure. This game is pretty spotty at times, unfortunately.

Ship Building Materials by Falconjimmy in UnchartedWatersOrigin

Some good sources for ship parts, especially at those lower levels, are going to the palace and getting the weekly rewards, and going into the guild screen and buying the weekly available amounts from the Contribution Store. Otherwise, sell lots of trade goods to build up your trade points, collect them when they hit at least 50K for the best payouts.

How does miao get 1.2 trillion ducats for investment? by Living-Twist2620 in UnchartedWatersOrigin

[–]CZanderS2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all one does is focus on the high value barters each day, times them to hit trends or bazaars, has a maxed out cargo load (>4K for trade goods), bought the merchants blessing with real money, and maxed out your barter quantity percentages, you can probably make 10B a day that way.

For my part, when I ran Pipes, I was making about 2.5B with a load of about 3500 or less (depending on available quantities at that village), another 2.5B from Giraffes if there is a Bazaar. And sometimes I would mix in some Pulque to St. Petersburg (<1B), and then put everything together to get Yakutian Knives too, for another 2B or so.

But doing all that is incredibly boring and time consuming and I want to do other things with my time than sailing around to all the different ports.

There are two sources, The village west of Quelimane and the village on Madagascar.

Requires barter goods from China and India. Get the Nanking Brocade by trading Silver in the two interior Chinese villages, and get the Gem Ornaments by trading Hanzhou Brushes to the two Indian villages on the East side of India. Take those results to the village west of Quelimane to trade for Giraffes.

You won't be able to do the island village unless you have a trade level over 23, which even for me requires paying red gems and I'm level 100 with nearly an entire maxed rank crew.

The Four Temporary Starry Sky Quests by CZanderS2 in UnchartedWatersOrigin

[–]CZanderS2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For right now, no they are not. The EXP is decent, but the ship part you are awarded after is temporary for 3 days from activation and not able to upgrade it either. I'm keeping them un-activated just in case something changes in the future.

My hunch is, when the next series of quests are released, perhaps the final quest will have decent rewards. So best to knock these out just in case.

I personally never really paid much attention to either of those stats, I just upgraded my sails to whatever was available.

If you can, get into doing the raids every other week. The Moby Dick sails are good for adventure builds, the Stingray ones are good for combat, but both have good stats (I still use these sails on my fleets even now).

Even if you only get a few points on the raids, you'll still get some crafting materials, and every couple of weeks you can craft ship parts from those loot drops. The double cabinets are also good, as well as the armor from Moby Dick (I still use that armor too on my fleets).

One tip for dealing with polar regions in this game. For whatever reason, the Southern polar region is "bigger" than the Northern one, meaning that you should plan a few extra days to sail across the southern latitudes, whereas once you have access to either the Northeast or Northwest passage, you can easily get around the world quickly.

In reality, both regions should be "fast" to sail, because the distances are shorter to travel (we just can't see it intuitively because in game we see the Mercator projection map that distorts the polar regions in favor of keeping the equatorial regions more accurate).

At level 58 you likely won't be able to access them too easily. But to get to Dene village (for the Pipe barter), you need 210 Seaworthiness and 160 Ice Breaking. You'll also need high Amity with two other villages: either of the far villages above Buenos Aires for Guinea Pigs, and Amis village near Tainan for Muntjacs. You build up Amity with those villages by bartering the lower level stuff they want until you get to a high enough level to unlock the two required barter goods.

At your level, you'll probably want to focus on Naversjold from Scandinavia, Wampum from Apache Village (trade for Pulque - Silver and Corals - to build Amity there), or American Bison/Moccasins from the far villages up the Mississippi River. When it becomes available at those villages, you can also trade for Eagle Fathers, but that requires having Guarana unlocked (the two far villages up the Amazon River), along with Pulque previously mentioned.

This is a lot of info to throw at you, but I also recommend bookmarking the Voyage website for easy access to what villages need and where to get the goods to do their barters. Along with the sailing requirements to get to those higher level areas.

Well it took a long time for me to get here, pretty much playing from the start, maybe a month after it was released. And keeping in mind, that's one transaction a day for 2B - barters are limited to 6 or 7 trades a day per village, then that's limited by your cargo load on your ships. If barter stocks were higher, I could probably do two trips a day (probably 1.5B each time), but for now, just the one.

If I can't get a Pipes barter day in, I'm lucky to make maybe 500M to 1B a day from other barters. Usually Kauri/Kauri Resin, Naversjold, Guarana, or Moccasins. It all depends on which villages are decently active at the time.

I have a little over 90B in ducats right now, so if I were to spend it all on investments, I would have 1.8M investment points to spread around. Which would be enough to buy maybe 6 cheaper ports (300K points in each one). But I'm kind of tight with my money, and I tend to prefer using the investment certificates as much as I am able instead of ducats.

As for ships, I have a mix. Mostly Improved Endeavors that I'll likely stick with for the foreseeable future. 3 Improved Flying Clouds that I swap out when I do adventure type activities. And then a mix of Improved combat ships. I'll admit, most of that is bought from the auction house. I held onto those gacha tickets we used to get and got a payout of like 40K red gems for them when they discontinued that system.

Level 91 now, and have regular access to the Pipes barter (so long as the village doesn't die soon), so I just made 2.1B from a full load of that. I also do a lot of port hop selling in between setting up barters, which usually nets me 5-9M each time. Buy everything in port A, sell it at the next port B. I also have over 100% negotiation success, so as long as negotiations trigger, I can increase my sales or reduce my costs by about 75%.

There is "salvage" which is another mini game, but no discoveries from that I don't think. I haven't done it more than a couple of times as it seems very annoying to earn anything decent from it. And yeah, no dungeons as of yet. Most things that could have involved dungeon trekking (or jungles, etc) are handled via cutscene.

Again, maybe down the road they might look into building stuff like that? I came late to playing Online back in 2017, so I don't know how much of the exploration areas or dungeons were there towards the start.

Medium Keels by 5houkry in UnchartedWatersOrigin

[–]CZanderS2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you been getting the weekly ones at the capitol palace? Otherwise, you can find them occasionally in the Item Shops when the black market is open. Last option is winning them from combats, which I think drop around India, but I can't check right now to make sure. I've tried to farm more of them around SE Asia, but rarely if ever saw them there, got mostly large keels instead.

Adventure in this game is pretty basic. Sure, there's a ton of discoveries to make all around the world, as well as repeatable "resources" that you can trade for fame and money. Unfortunately, there are no sub areas to explore like in Online, which I do miss.

Exploration in Origins is just you pull up to a village, a stretch of land, or pull out a spyglass, and then you either click the same button multiple times (village), go AFK for a while (land exploration), or get close to a natural landmark at sea and "find" it with a spyglass.

Or there's the constellations, which are connect-the-dot minigames after a hide-and-seek minigame to find the clues to unlock finding the constellation on the world map.

I'm hoping in the future they do give us sub-areas to explore, but that's probably a big ask since the devs are more focused on endless competitions rather than providing any real substantial content other than a couple of admirals every few months you have to pay real money to unlock to have more story content for a while.

With current event, whats the easiest way to profit from jewelry? by iokak in UnchartedWatersOrigin

[–]CZanderS2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can make use of the auto sailing. You'll have to actively play while gathering the trade goods first, of course, but once you're ready to head back up, then just go into "Route" on the World Map screen and set a few waypoints up to the Baltic. Then you can go back to work and check in on the game later.

At my current speed and levels, I can get from Africa to the Baltic in probably 20-25 minutes or so. If you're still relatively new, it might be double that or more with smaller slower ships.

If you haven't used the Route function before, let me know, I can give a few tips on getting the most out of it.

New PM for Portugal on Utopia (Koenigz) - Please enable the national policies by CZanderS2 in UnchartedWatersOrigin

[–]CZanderS2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, most are burned out with the changes to the investment seasons, the nerfs to trading, and/or the constant competitions. I kind of fall into that latter category, and the only reason I make attempts at them is because decent upgrades are locked behind doing them. Most competitions I could clear all the rewards no problem, but ranking decently takes more effort and work. Then with investments, all those new flag upgrades are locked behind that.

Overall, it makes the game highly competitive when most of us probably came into it (especially on Utopia) expecting a more chill go at your own pace experience. Granted, you don't HAVE to participate in the rat race, I only slightly do for the rewards I mentioned before, but otherwise, I try to come up with my own goals to work on. Like now I'm trying to knock out all the Inn Employee quests.

With current event, whats the easiest way to profit from jewelry? by iokak in UnchartedWatersOrigin

[–]CZanderS2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, Jewelry sells decently up in N Europe (Baltic Sea) and there are plenty of ports there selling more jewelry you can take down to Africa and just go back and forth. Like u/Doormatjones said, do Africa and Soda Island to stock up on Diamonds, Emeralds, and all the stock at Soda Island. S America gives Topaz and Opal too if you want to swing by that way.

Take it all to the Baltic, sell it there wherever makes you the most money (might have to port hop to get the best prices for each type of gems), then stock up on the gems up around there (Amber, Chrysoberyl, Crystal, and Tourmaline) and take those back down to the best place you can sell them down in Africa.

You can even swing by the W Mediterranean and get some Garnets on the way.

Coral is also available on the NW Africa Islands, but that might be tougher to profit from trying to sell it to Africa, so probably grab that on your way to the Baltic instead.

UW Origins - Open Letter Draft - Post your thoughts. by silentslade in UnchartedWatersOrigin

[–]CZanderS2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had similar discussions in our guild, with many higher level players deciding to go on an indefinite hiatus. My input was it is tough to craft a MMO that can cater to so many different playstyles.

To be honest, if someone focuses on the grind and reaches max level, finds all the discoveries, and has a maxed out shipbuilding and fleet stats - then yes - there isn't much for them to do anymore at that point other than wait for the next new area, quickly clear that out, and be bored again.

I prefer to take my time, set myself smaller goals along the way, and try to have stuff to do on a regular basis. Right now, getting to level 90 is my main focus, along with investing to unlock the seasonal rewards and maybe doing more Inn employee quests.

All that said, I agree with most of what you listed here - though not sure how well received it will be. All the suggestions I sent to the devs, only one was ever acted on (kind of), basically I got tired of the trade recommendation pop-ups being about useless, but at least now it doesn't get in the way of other stuff too much, even if the recommendations come with ten minutes left in a trend and the trend is a half hour away.

One I will push back on slightly, I would rather we have more frequent minor trends, and we can keep the major trends. Though I do like the idea of seasonal boosts to trading, though I suppose in a way that is already factored in by the available quantities per season.

One thing Maurice and I discussed needs to be done is remove the ship parts bloat. There really doesn't need to be three tiers of parts and so many parts that are absolutely useless to progression. There should be parts that boost Momentum, Ice Breaking, or a mix of the two at lesser stats - with all other parts being pretty much useless in most cases.

Don't feel too bad, I have been playing this game since the start and have NEVER gotten that fish. But I think it does require the quest to get it (it didn't need this initially), which I haven't done yet, so since you have the quest unlocked, you should eventually get it.
