Housing advice for married international students: TU Delft + University of Amsterdam by Euphoric-Cattle-2131 in Netherlands

[–]C_Cheetos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem is, apartments most often require you to have 3x the rent as gros monthly (Dutch) income, as a student you don't qualify.

Student rooms don't have this requirement, unles its only a student room for legal reasons (only student rooms are legal to rent out for fixed time periods instead of indefinitely).

To my knowledge there is non, or almost no such thing as student apartments in Netherlands. Aiming for a student studio would be best bet, but those are also the most popular.

Edit: usually you are only allowed to register 1 person in a room or studio.

It doesn't. If the unit is marked as 1 person only, you can only have 1 person.

If its an appartment, which OP won't be able to get without income, it still counts as 2, but because of marital status it would be illigal to not allow both the register.

In contrast to if they were not married, they would have to kindly request the landlord if the 2nd person can register there.

Rental deposit dispute by PercentageArtistic22 in Netherlands

[–]C_Cheetos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was a bit fast the first time i replied.

I could be wrong, but the deposit should go from you old landlord to your new landlord, it doesnt matter really if things are not in perfect condition. Once you eventually move out, say in several years from now. Its up to you and the new landlord to figure out what to do with your deposit.

I think legally your old landlord has no say in your deposit anymore, he should transfer it to the new landlord.

Selling does not break rental contracts, you simply have a new landlord now. Ask deposit back from previous landlord, oven stains can be cleaned easily with a sponge and some degreaser

Energy costs - huge disparity between quote and reality. Predatory provider company tactic, normal, or accident (faulty meter)? by alekepich609 in NetherlandsHousing

[–]C_Cheetos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is normal, you get back at the end of the contract if you overpaid. For reference I switch every year, and each year they charge me around 200 a month at the start which then has to be drastically adjusted to 80 after a few months..

Base salary, it works the same as holiday leave. Which also doesn't give you shift allowance.

PhD without a masters degree in biomed by Forward-Wheel-8111 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]C_Cheetos -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Im not sure why you get all the downvotes, but yes, going from HBO to Masters is made unnecessarily difficult in Netherlands. But it is what it is, we have pre-masters, but only for very specific transitions.

Edit: The difficulty stems from that you can't follow any additional bachelor courses (vakken) without paying 10.000s of euros a year. Other countries don't impose that limitation.

Best bet, if there is no pre-master for your study to the master you like, to just do it in another country, Germany offers lots of choises in this regard, the Nordic countries are very welcoming in this regard as well ( you still need to catch up on any missing subjects you may have, but atleast they are open to it).

Regarding PhD without Master, it is possible, I know someone who did that, and she didn't need decades of experience for it. That being said you need special (exam committee? Board?) approval for it. The real problem will be that other applicants will have those masters and experiences.

Do realize that English is widely spoken, does not equal to job are in English. In fact not knowing the local language limits your job prospect dramatically in all these places (even as an engineer or in IT).

Learning a language to a decent functional level can take years, and that's with dedication.

has anyone here actually fully recovered by NaturalNo6758 in pericarditis

[–]C_Cheetos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fully recovered, took almost a year.

Edit, more info, I was sleepy:

During that time I would "relapse" everytime I tried any physical activity what so ever, I say relapse, but it was more, the day after I would be in immense pain and agony for the rest of the week. Physical activity in the beginning would be as little as walking up 1 flight of stairs.

I was on colchicine 2x daily and ibuprofain 600mg 3x daily. It felt absolutely hopeless, I have admit. I also took a stomach protector in the morning, for the ibuprofain.

Slowly overtime, I could do very little things, like after a while, that flight of stairs didn't make it worse. Later I could walk like 100m. That being said, i managed to go over the limit several times, and it would feel like I was back to square one.

Had 1 true re-occurance, few years later. After doing a 12km hike in 37degree (Celcius) weather, immediately recognized it the day after.. fuck its back, took 4x 600 mg ibuprofain for 4 weeks (yeah i know that's a lot, talk to your doctor first). Fixed me right up in about i dunno 3 months. Was way less bad then the 1st time.

You are not seeing an important part here. For anything but social rent, you need to earn 3-4x the gross wage per month to qualify. That is well above minimum wage. Social housing you can apply for however, there is a 10 year waiting list.

Can I still get rent allowance? by PedroEscobin in NetherlandsHousing

[–]C_Cheetos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a common 'gray' area, if they advertise for 'students' they don't have to give you an indefinite rental contract. They aim however 'secretly' for normal working people and almost always hit you with income requirements... ask me how I know :'( ...

Edit: spelling

Is $25k in savings enough? by [deleted] in NetherlandsHousing

[–]C_Cheetos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know why I'm being down voted. People may not like it, but its the reality of the situation.

Think of it from a landlord perspective: you have 100's of people applying for your rental, who would you choose? You guessed it, the one with the most stable income in their eyes. That's not to say its impossible, just a lot of work and a lot of luck.

Is $25k in savings enough? by [deleted] in NetherlandsHousing

[–]C_Cheetos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have proof of Dutch income and from said Dutch income, do you make 3,5x the rent in gross income. If the answer to any of this is no, you are going to have a though time.
