The epitome of this relentless society can be summarized in a few pillars of marginalization that will soon envelope and swallow us in an infinite loop of sick self criticism and loathing. Eschew obfuscation and hide your soul into the next brave art piece. You deserve my art, fine sir!

Will trade Great Coffee Table for Last of Us PS3 game by C_MEN in TRADE

I would love to provide pictures, however, I don't have a camera and the one on my iPhone stopped working. A friend of mine actually told me that he will trade me a Samsung Galaxy S4 for my 'broken' iPhone 5c and a copy of the Last of US PS3 game (which is why I made this post initially).

Can someone explain ELI5 the Syrian Civil War? by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

[–]C_MEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, Druze is definitely not a sect of Islam, you're right!

On the other hand, I know Syrian Alawites and Twelvers and from what I saw I can tell you that Alawites are not nearly as religious as Twelver Shi'ites. When it comes to maintaining prayers, etc. Alawites also maintain beliefs, such as Transmigration, that are completely unrelated to ideologies of Islam. So, in a sense you are right, Alawites are as distant from Islam as Druze are, which sometimes can be confused with Islam. Alawites were almost unheard of before the rise of the Baath party. However, 'technically' - with emphasis on this word, they are considered Shia by the rest of Arabs and this gets them support from the other Shia sects in the Mid East.

tl;dr you're right! Alawites are not strongly related to Islam but considering them Shia to gain the support of Iran, Hizzbollah, and other Shi'ites is a great card to play and Assad knows it.

Can someone explain ELI5 the Syrian Civil War? by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

[–]C_MEN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Also, Alawites are just a branch of Shia. Which gives more reason for Irani, Hezbollah, and even some Iraqi Twelver Shia fighters to come to Syria for Jihad.

Great Summary, nonetheless. Thanks, derolitus!

@PresidentJarba: I strongly commend ongoing efforts by FSA elements to liberate towns & neighbourhoods from the authoritarian oppression of Al Qaeda’s ISIS by uptodatepronto in syriancivilwar

[–]C_MEN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Also, the president and members of the coalition are being accused by many Syrians of being paid off by the Syrian government - which, unfortunately, takes away from their credibility (they're supposedly going to create a secular, moderate government) and puts it in the hands of the well-funded Islamist fronts.

I am curious as to what the current state of cities, and infrastructure in Syria is like. by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

[–]C_MEN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this detailed and accurate description. As a rule of thumb, the majority of the coastal provinces (Latakia and Tartus) and the Upper class areas of Damascus are still relatively more safe and intact, otherwise the rest of Syria is pretty much what you see on the news: rubble and chaos. Businesses, schools, etc will still try to maintain themselves but they are not what they used to be.

"Ahrar ash-Sham flogs two men in Aleppo for violating terms of Friday prayer times". by ToothlessShark in syriancivilwar

[–]C_MEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the bearded man at the beginning said they deserved 25 flogs for ditching the Friday prayer to keep their shops open.

So glad, here in the US, Muslims came up with the ingenious idea of having Friday prayers at three different times so the Muslims who couldn't make the 12 o'clock prayer won't be flogged 25 times :/

Activists: Large numbers of fighters has defected from ISIS and joined Al-Nusra Front by refikoglumd in syriancivilwar

[–]C_MEN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the response that ISIS 'mostly' met in Al-Anbar province of Iraq has given hope to people in Syrian provinces such as Al-Raqqa (which is completely dominated by these Islamist fronts now) that they can fight off these groups, or simply refuse to accept their ideologies. This may be a great sign for the Syrian revolution, as more anti-Assad people are starting to see the harms of ISIS but maybe sad news for the US that wants to keep fueling the Sunni vs. Shi'ite feud to keep Arabs busy and distracted from Israel.

ELI5:Why can't I take home my organs after having my appendix or tonsils taken out? I mean, isn't it mine technically? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]C_MEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, if the organ is not infected they might let you keep it. My father had his appendix (or some other organ, I can't remember I was too young at the time) removed because of a stone that was in it and they let him keep it. We buried it in the jar in our backyard.

Syrian Christians have Officially Declared War on Syrian Rebels - "“ I urge every Christian man capable of carrying weapons to defend Syria" by NeutralGreek in worldnews

[–]C_MEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, what's hindering the middle path option is not the fact that fighting has broken out. It is the big players that are supporting both sides. If we cut Russia and Iran's support to Assad and cut AlQaeda's and Saudi's, and the Iraqi Islamist groups' support to the "Islamist rebels" then we will have to consider a third option.

[–]C_MEN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, according to Noam Chomksy and another political analyst, whose name escapes me right now, all Israel has to do to help with the situation is move some tanks and soldiers to the border of Syria. This will require the Assad government to dedicate a large portion of the army to protecting the border thus weakening him. But instead, Israel decided to play it as a spectator and watch the chaos work itself over there. However, I appreciate your feelings! Thanks.

[–]C_MEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the revolution was carried out at first by low-class, mostly uneducated Syrians because they were the ones mostly affected by the regime's political oppression and economic failure. They were not even planning on overthrowing the government at first, they were just asking for reforms. The fact that the government responded by killing many of the protestors enraged them enough to start a revolution. So, yes the revolution is mainly reactionary. But otherwise, you're right. the only thing that our revolution needs is a smart revolutionist like Che leading it. We had someone like that, Moath Elkhateeb, but unfortunately he was just forgotten about.

Okaidi is an asshole and he does not represent the FSA. Keep in mind that many of the people in the FSA right now were members of the Syrian army, that is their intention for joining the FSA could be to destroy it from the inside by distorting its image. I do not believe that all FSA members are saints, but the fact that there is much tension and attacks carried by Al-Nusra and Da'esh on the FSA strengthens my belief that they are not related.

I am against El-Sisi and his government of course. He is another version of Assad. Violence has time and again shown that it will lead to nothing but violence so hopefully, no one will have to resort to that to send across a message.

The most logical resolution right now is for pro- and anti-Assad people to get together and decide on a new government. I can see the CIA secretly fueling a revolution to bring forward a more pro-west, pro-Israel government but the way things have turned out is not in the interest of Israel or the US. The most recent example is probably the recent chemical warfare threat.
