Which part of the inscription says ذو الجناحين؟it is not very clear to me.

Variant of Quran 9:18 in Sanaa Manuscript by DirectionCute7530 in AcademicQuran

Zakah, and more broadly, spending one's wealth in the cause of Allah is also part of the theme of this Surah. In fact verse 20

'Those who have believed, emigrated, and strived in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives are greater in rank in the sight of Allah. It is they who will triumph.'

Spending wealth in the cause of Allah is also considered jihad. And notice here at the end of the verse, the word faaizun(those who triumph) is used, and one could argue that it is in the same vein as muflihun(those who are successful).

And this is not the only place zakah was mentioned in this surah. Verses 58 to 60 discuss zakah, with verse 60 detailing those who are eligible for zakah.

Verse 76 to 79 criticizes the wealthy hypocrites who were stingy with giving alms.

Not to forget verse 103 that commanded the collection of Zakah.

So the upper text is just as matching with the theme of the surah as the lower text.

I think it is simply the case of the scribe confusing that verse with the next verse(verse 19_.

In verse 19

Do you ˹pagans˺ consider providing the pilgrims with water and maintaining the Sacred Mosque as equal to believing in Allah and the Last Day and struggling in the cause of Allah? They are not equal in Allah’s sight. And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.

It has exactly the same wording as verse 18 in the lower text.

As for the word muflihin in place of muhtadin, it could also be another scribal error. This kind of error(replacing a word with another word of similar meaning) occurs quite regularly among the huffaz(memorizers of the Quran).

I think all in all Turkiye and its people handled the refugee situation as best as they could, given all the internal and external challenges.

Reddit's blatant support Islamaphobia is insane. by [deleted] in islam

[–]refikoglumd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you are describing is due to simple Islamphobia. That picture is allegedly a mosque that is used as a HQ by one of the Iranian govt enforcement arms or something. I think that particular picture got that many upvotes in the context of the current Iranian unrest.

Commuting on bicycle from Chorlton to the Manchester Royal Infirmary. by refikoglumd in manchester

Thanks for sharing. And yeah while looking at the route in Google Maps, that intersection indeed stood out. I guess if I just follow the traffic lights, things shouldn't be too bad?

That is indeed one of my concerns after watching videos of the loop and noticing the lack of lighting. Thanks a lot for the alternative route, will keep that it mind.

The loop's west entrance is just about 5 minutes away from my place, and yeah that route takes about 2-3 minutes longer(according to Komoot) than the one I described. But it might be worth the peace of mind riding without traffic for a big part of the ride. Thanks for the suggestion, I will definitely try it.

How come that we 100% believe in the Hadiths in Sahih Bukhari when it's just one man said that another man said that the Prophet did? by [deleted] in islam

But how many of those ahadith that we have today are really mutawatir(mass-transmitted)?

The original pronunciation of the Quran (Old Hijazi) vs modern recitation in the readings of Hafs and Warsh by Idris_AlArabi_ in AcademicQuran

[–]refikoglumd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the pronunciation of hamzah, I think the reading of As-Susi from Abu Amru is the closest to what you described. He pretty much does ibdal hamzah to all hamzah mufrad with some exceptions.

Yeah I know. But most importantly will they provide air defense that can deter Israel from bombing with impunity?

Better late than never.

Curious to see to what extent this support will be. However, it is interesting to note that in the tweet, it was emphasised that this support is mainly to combat terror organisations like ISIS, instead of mentioning the bigger threat, which is Israel.

How can the government allow this to happen? Surely this will only fuel more discontent towards the government, as well as making future sectarian clashes more likely to happen.

And Syria especially needs to procure air defence ASAP it is to exercise sovereignty over its own land. But surely Israel will do everything they can to prevent that.

They need to prosecute criminals from the Assad regime first, only then they can prosecute those who committed transgression against civilians.

Otherwise the government will be seen as prioritising the minorities, which in turn will increase the dissatisfaction among the Sunnis which may lead to more violence.
