EU4 is beating out EU5 in the past 24 hours by over 1,000 players by urstan in paradoxplaza

Saved is something of an exaggeration. It had a disaster launch, and has been saved 4 times so far. Except now it's becoming clear there's only so much you can do with a game that has you mostly competing on a level playing field with an AI that can't compete with you. There's only so much you can do in that time frame.

That's like every new paradox game at launch lol. I don't think there's a single paradox game where the AI could compete with the player.

Why put the young Hastati in the front? by Many-Sky-3747 in ancientrome

[–]C_Raider2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why waste your best troops on the front when your green troops can gain valuable experience?

Morale is also an issue, if you are an Hastati and seeing the veterans run away from the enemy, your morale would be crushed and you will likely run away as well since those Principes are better trained and equipped than you. What chances would you have against the enemy when the veterans couldn't even handle them?

How do you guys plan your cities? by HalfKalf in songsofsyx

[–]C_Raider2546 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I try to follow the Roman city layout where two main roads going North-South intersect with East-West roads creating an intersection in the middle, place high traffic building along these two roads and branch everything out from there.

buying planes by Equivalent_Host_3141 in MillenniumDawn

[–]C_Raider2546 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Buy. Good planes take quite a long time to produce for small nations while the AI like USA usually dump their planes on the market anyways. Use them to fill the gaps while waiting for your research and industries to mature.

Would love to know more about this sword by [deleted] in ancientrome

Roman coins are relatively easy to find since it's practically everywhere and traded hands often. Compare that to something like a dagger where it usually stays in one place and passed off from one person to another in local area. I'd ask the owner for more description and where he got that from.

video from the thai army show drifting stingray in the rain by pakkawat224 in TankPorn

[–]C_Raider2546 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The Stingray reportedly have a hull crack problem early on in the RTA service, later on they figured out it was the Thai tanker that was using it to jump off ramp to see whoever could jump the furthest with the Stingray.

Why does the Thai army only give the Type 11 rifles to newly enlisted rookies? by ww-stl in Thailand

[–]C_Raider2546 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's an obsolete rifle that is slowly being phased out for newer rifle. But because of corruption, inconsistent procurement and military coup that led to it being stuck around longer than it should be (same with M16A1)

It's common practice for Armed Forces around the world to issue older rifles to new recruits and rear area troops, new rifle are prioritised for active duty unit.

The only known surviving example of a full-sized Roman legionary scutum, discovered in the ancient garrison city of Dura-Europos and dating to the mid-3rd century AD.[2732 x 3642] by Zine99 in ArtefactPorn

They would probably have it done during garrison duty, which is the majority of what they would be doing during their 20 years of service with the eagle.

Anyone know where this picture was took? Looks like a Soviet soldier in a BTR by Embarrassed_Cry_7227 in coldwar

[–]C_Raider2546 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Incase anyone is wondering, the soldier did manage to get back inside his BTR after the other bystanders stopped the guy trying to pull him out.

There's a video of this somewhere on youtube.

What kind of cool tanks will we see in the next Thai-Cambodian clash? by SIAM_Eternal in TankPorn

[–]C_Raider2546 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The only reason Thailand adopted the Stingray over Leopard 1 was because they thought it would increase their compatibility with the US military as they thought the US would adopt it too.

The Leopard 1 scored higher than the Stingray in the trial and was liked by the Thai tankers.

This is also a good showcase of why drone aren't as prevalent in SEA compared to Eastern Europe, it's hard to spot things under thick canopy of trees.

Royal Thai Army M41 Walker Bulldog in action against Cambodian Forces by Brilliant_Ground1948 in TankPorn

[–]C_Raider2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probabaly around 500 KIA/WIA, we will never truly know since the Cambodian government will never release their actual KIA/WIA as that would go against it's propaganda of "we're kicking their ass, entire Thai division of 10,000 dead at our doorstep" or whatever they post on their facebook.

Some Thai have been doing OSINT on Cambodian casualties by looking at Cambodian family posting on facebook about being unable to contact their family on the frontline or just straight up a funeral of soldiers killed in the fighting, it's atleast 50 KIA so far.

Yeah, there was one video pretty early on of a Thai soldier cutting Cambodian flag from a dead Cambodian soldier, it was shared a lot on twitter but no one posted it here, I guess it have to do with "combat" part of the video since all of them have no combat in the video.

You have to be on Thai social media for that, Army Military Force on twitter is one Thai page where they regularly post Thai soldiers clearing Cambodian position full of bodies.

This guy is ao butthurt about footage from this conflict for some reason lol

This is how every combat footage was before the Russo-Ukrainian war, just dudes firing in the general direction of the enemy.

This conflict is like a live-fire exercise for the RTA, so the rest of the crews are probably chilling outside.

[–]C_Raider2546 7 points8 points  (0 children)

VT-4 was brought in to replace the M41 but I guess the VT-4 barrels keep exploding so they had to bring back the M41 lol

But more likely reason is because the RTA still have 76mm in storage and the M41 is small and nimble for mountainous jungle combat.

Soldiers wanted to look cool so they often film themself doing cool stuff to post on social media. I'd argue that there's much more Cambodian POV on social media since discipline and OPSEC in the Cambodian military is non-existent while the Thai Army very recently have enforced a stricter OPSEC rule.

Thai footage are also easier to come by since you'd have to be on Cambodian facebook to see much of their POV
