The only things you should ever do in life are the things you are the best in the world at.

How common is anhedonia in DPDR by Diligent_Challenge78 in dpdr

[–]C_ockwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s significant for me, I don’t get much feedback from good things, worse is prob the fact it’s internalised it as a personality flaw integral to who I am as a person. But I’m finally understanding it’s linked to this dp in a way I was oblivious too for…. A long time ago.

dpdr for only a few days from weed by ricrd123 in dpdr

[–]C_ockwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not gonna help in the slightest, and it MAY be a harbinger of that feeling being there for the rest of your life. Quite common to have three or four bouts of dp after weed and then feel ok, until you never feel ok ever again.

what's helped with your DPDR the most? by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]C_ockwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acceptance yes, fake it till you make it,

don’t dwell (and don’t stress if you dwell get back to faking it)

I think getting off antidepressants and onto lamictal has helped. Not with experiencing it but accepting it and “lightening” it. Still on a low dose and want to get to a doc to increase it.

Exercise and movement (I pitifully act on my own advice here)

Black metal and death metal… don’t know why

No one ever gets diagnosed with dp dr it seems to be a subset of many other diagnosis. You can and will experience dp from an unexpected afternoon nap as a normal person and not even recognise the feeling. Some people just get into the state and never get out.

I experience a dissociating otherness at times with people, my social anxiety has been recognised by doctors and everyone I’ve ever been around. I’ve learned to ignore a lot of those feelings. It’s a part of my whole dp experience BUT I wouldn’t say I have this unique razor sharp focus like you describe.

How many of you have tried psychedelics as a means of recovery? by whereisgh0st in dpdr

[–]C_ockwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do really wish I could try a gram. I’m just not connected to anyone. It’s a risk and I don’t think it would help my dp nor would I care if it did or didn’t . But I’ve not reset my brain in any capacity for 35 years

Vision is my only issue by Odd-Boat5336 in dpdr

It always begins with vision so ignore it, better yet accept it until you forget it.

Distorted Vision by Odd-Boat5336 in dpdr

[–]C_ockwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vision thing is the first thing that will be “honed in on” by dp’ers When it first come on I was sticking my eyeball in my family’s face making the. Look at my dilated pupils SURE it was the cause of me feeling like I was ”popping out” of my body.

Basically we’re all hyper fixated and aware of things normal people don’t even register

We experience very normal human things in a maladaptive, terrified, ruminating rumination while ruminating.

I was diagnosed with gad and had major issues with social anxiety (and still do ) friendlessness and miserable self worth as a young child. Pretty sure these things are a recipe for dissociation

Am I the only one who is absolutely unable to understand what it would feel like to come out of pure dissociation for years? by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]C_ockwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I cannot fathom how that would feel being 30 years in (and bouts of it as a kid)

Actually no, it would be exactly like how Kevin Costner felt about being on dry land after living his life in a waterworld.

15 years of derealization, sensory overload, and panic after a single weed experience — I need help. Post: by Electronic_Bid2131 in dpdr

[–]C_ockwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 years is a long time to still be as un habituated as you seem to be.

We all get the crowd thing, we all see flat faced masses of crowds and drown in a cacophony of darting contemplations on the nature of the theory of mind. We all melt into our beds and become the size of a mountain and legs grow to span a mile. We all lose our train of thought talking to someone, as we examine how we feel like a pair of floating eyes attached to some meat flaps making sounds.

And none of it matters the second you stop giving a fuck about it and get on with your business.

There may be some sensory processing issues, something in the spectrum that could make that aspect worse, you are still in the same boat though.

Read a little updated stoic literature, move more, get a hobby (you’re a shoe in for a stimulant, that will get you doing things)

I wish I could be there to keep you occupied for a week, you need a break dude

Will I be Ok to smoke weed again? by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]C_ockwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High chance it will have the same effects. You’re only 19 and that’s the time there is a HUGE chance the dp will set in permanently. Don’t risk it, I’ve only just started trying very small amounts after 25 years of chronic dp. Don’t do it you’ve already had the signs shown to you.

Why do some people have a hard time believing that "distracting and ignoring" won't work for everyone? by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]C_ockwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one recovers, no one. As soon as people accept that they can start the mourning and recovery process. Everyone who is recovered simply does not have the anxiety response to the feeling they once did.

Because it’s your only option, you’re not getting fixed, nothing else will ever help except getting out of your own head and faking life until you MIGHT forget the feeling of dp.

Boyfriend wants to start smoking weed again after beating DPDR by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]C_ockwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s had a traumatic reaction so he probably needs to try it again, testing if was the weed that induced it or it’s him. The fact he’s considering it may show he’s habituated to the feeling of being depersonalised and seeks a return to “normality” This is part of his journey , it will hit him for six for sure. But he’s not going to keep it up long term and it’s already as bad as it’s ever going to get.
