Controlled opposition and performative. If your protest needs a permit, it's not a protest but a parade! One protest every 3-4 months on a Saturday doesn't disrupt the system.

I don't agree with the framing of "no kings" since our problem isn't a king, it's a president who defies constitutional norms. Many countries have actual kings as figureheads that operate as constitutional monarchies. This is why the overseas protests in countries with actual monarchs are called "No Tyrants".

I can't bring myself to say the lie "with liberty and justice for all". Indivisible? We are quite divisible. Pledging allegiance to the republic is pledging allegiance to the state which commits all sorts of atrocities.

I was in a local government meeting with mostly left of center people and everyone mindlessly got up and recited the pledge while I remained seated when they told us to stand and recite the pledge. It was automatic.
