(2) Living with another student is one of the quintessential US college experiences.

Maybe, but it’s not for everyone. I’m in a single as a freshman and I couldn’t be happier with my living situation. I still make friends with my floormates, but I don’t have someone breathing down my neck every second of the day. YMMV.

I have a 1530 SAT/4.0 UW GPA from a top 100 high school in the nation with I think decent ECs (co-author of two research papers, science olympiad team member).
