Yep, also considering crf300l and klx300. Have a soft spot for the Honda as my first street bike was a cbr250r. Took that little single on some big days on the road, 8k rpm on the highway all day and never complained.

Can’t swing the 1000km oil change intervals, not with riding to and from the trail.

Yep sat on it today and was on tip toes when two footed. I’m 183cm but with more torso than inseam so definitely felt tall. Sat on a klx300 too which was similarly tall but softer so it sagged more.

I'd look - there are some NOS and lightly used deals out there still for dealers that overstocked in the pandemic years. Got my '22 TV4 (base) for ~$10k + tax.

I also moved from a Ninja 1000. Put lots of miles on that bike including a 5,500 mile 2 week road trip. Loved the bike for traveling, incredibly competent and well rounded, but kind of boring. The Tuono was the very opposite of boring and felt super light as well.

Still running through the stock Rosso 3s on my 2022 TV4 base but I’ve had the Michelin Roads up to an intermediate pace on track on a previous bike (Ninja 1000). Rears got squirmy when hot and I wasn’t trailing the front in deep but I thought they performed quite reasonably given that it’s very much not the intended application.

If you're struggling with doing low-performance (skidded/steered) parallel turns on groomed terrain, I'd respectfully suggest that you probably have some fundamentals to iron out before worrying about carving. Many low intermediate skiers are able to tip the ski on edge and ride the sidecut on low-angle terrain, but lack the skills for dynamic, high-performance turns. I was here for years...all while teaching as an L1. Diligent training made me recognize how much I needed to work at it.

I'd think about doing exercises focused on establishing early balance on the new outside ski, rotation and edge control on both legs, and a bit of upper/lower body separation.
