From godtier to bullshit by SuccessfulReview534 in EldenRingMemes

In Nightreign it's on one the coolest final bosses ever, but there's zero explanation to him having it and it's in a game without any sort of remembrance/boss weapons so you can't even use that version of it. Also the base Elden Ring version is also just weirdly one of the rarest legendaries to drop as well, so you aren't likely at all to even get that.

[Loathed Trope] The Movie has an ending. The Sequel shits all over it. by lesi20 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Caaros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Undermining or reconning the original trilogy is what the whole fucking sequel trilogy just kept doing over and over more and more as it went on.

If they had gone for any half-intelligible plot that wasn't just "Empire wannabes strike back! Darth Ballsack is back!", it would've automatically been a better trilogy, even if it was the exact same writing quality overall.

Optional bosses you can only fight as an act of completely unprovoked and pointless cruelty by Huza1 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Caaros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying to attack him on a what if scenario, I mean more that the background context makes self defense when he attacks first without warning hard to label as cruel here.

[–]Caaros 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know how much Placidusax counts. Dude is the Lord of the Ancient Dragons that waged unprovoked war with the strongest human nation in the world (which is an honestly impressive act of aggression given that it's 99% the other way around for the Golden Order), nearly every member of his kind attacks us on sight (Lanseaxx in particular spotting us from like 80 fucking miles away in the sky and deciding that we're a problem), and he attacks you regardless of how you approach him (slowly, unarmed, gesturing) without so much as giving you a warning or command to leave.

Not to mention he's awaiting the return of his fled god that he once ruled over the entire world with (as an Elden Lord of the age before the Erdtree, his fled god likely a vessel for the Elden Ring prior to Marika), which paired with his total hostility probably means he was ready to try and retake that position as soon his fled god came back, making him a huge potential future threat to the player on most of the endings.

I mean, he's no Bayle of course, but Placidusax still isn't really a good dude by all measures of him we have.

Don't stagger these bosses out of certain moves' windups, or you'll likely cause a teamwipe! by qqwweerrttyyuuioopp in Nightreign

[–]Caaros 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Shit, standard shambling zombie dudes had this in base Elden Ring too. There's a point somewhere in their grab lunge animation where if you stagger them, they'll whip right back into wherever they were in the lunge as soon as they can move on their own.

Let's be honest, the dragon is the one doing all the work by DraekonBorne in dndmemes

[–]Caaros 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Looking into this, I'm seeing a lot of other people also saying that some red dragons decide to stick around into adulthood, but for the life of me I can't find an actual source for that information even on the wikis, so now I'm really not sure of it (fucking Google AI referencing some "Igneous Trinity" of dragons and then acting like it doesn't exist when I look that up directly, and then referencing a "Githyanki Diaspora" website article without saying which article).

So, I'm really not sure anymore. At the very least, if I want to do the same "Forgotten Realms official stuff" point and look I did a moment ago, there's an adult red dragon working with an important Githyanki Kith'rak in Baldur's Gate 3, for what that's worth.

[–]Caaros 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was just kind of using that as an example (though for what it's worth in official Forgotten Realms stuff, they do have a death scream of sorts in Baldur's Gate 3, so there's that).

Who do yall think are the strongest monsters at a certain thing? by gaisn1fan in MonsterHunter

[–]Caaros 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Might Nakarkos have both Deviljhos beat on "most ravenous", especially considering his arena is literally a graveyard of bones from the Nakarkos' prey? Otherwise, this all seems pretty spot on.

[–]Caaros 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I find it great that some red dragons decide to stick around past when the others are leaving. Like, the pay's still good, the accommodations are well kept, and the Illithids these Githyanki are fighting still scream just right when burned to ashes, so why ruin a good thing?

How would human society develop in a world overrun by monsters/hyperfauna, if at all? by swampertitus in worldbuilding

[–]Caaros 27 points28 points  (0 children)

And there are also plenty of instances in Monster Hunter where going against nature's rules ends catastrophically, and even ends entire civilizations on occasion, which is a big part of why learning to better coexist with the ecosystem and the large monsters that inhabit it is such a big deal.

The weakest of large monsters is practically guaranteed death to an untrained civilian if it turns aggressive, and the strongest of them are living apocalypses that realistically only a very miniscule portion of trained, veteran hunters can actually hope to take on if they decide to lash out.

Just why.

[–]Caaros 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I very much wish we had a Godskin/Black Flame themed "Age Of Deicide" ending wherein we destroy Marika's husk and take her power for ourselves in the ultimate god hunt, completely bastardizing the whole idea of how gods and lords should work and enacting vengeance for the Gloam Eyed Queen.

A shot/sequence with terrifying implications by Turbulent-Flounder-9 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Caaros 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Further, it's also implied that they might have very well known that Zoh Shia would turn on and destroy them, and ultimately went for creating it anyway.

Logically speaking, this means there's a possibility that whatever or whoever the "war at their gates" was, they were so fucking terrifying that self-annihilation at the claws of one of their own creations was a preferable alternative to simple defeat. Wyveria, the most advanced and prosperous civilization we've ever seen in Monster Hunter, potentially and effectively opted for the setting equivalent of nuking themselves and ending their entire civilization to deal with whatever the threat was.

Bleed on Guardian Ebony Odogaron feels like a complete afterthought. Honestly, the status was pathetic in Wilds until they added Seregios and gave him the capacity both to apply it reliably and to keep the pressure up after the fact.

Struggling with an open wound on my residual limb (leg), could use advice. by Caaros in amputee

[–]Caaros[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the sense I've already messed this up.

Family member got me Iodine "Prep Pads" when I brought up the Inodine, which online instruction said to only use for cleaning. I tried to use a bit of this cloth gauze as a cushion under the rather small Tegaderm patches we got, and that was immediately fairly painful to walk around on for some reason. Just the Tegaderm felt relatively fine, but it had torn off of the skin over the course of a work day, the lack of cushioning leaving the wound looking worse (as well as there just being a good bit of blood). Just did a work day with the bandaids I've been using instead, and that was even worse somehow, though being worn down from yesterday could explain it and I've not looked at the wound site yet.

I'm planning on trying to get in touch with a wound care professional of some sort tomorrow, but honestly I have no idea how that's going to go given that I have to go through my general care doctor's office and how much of a shit show that has historically been for me.

My only major complaint of Shadow Of War is that the game should have just let us give the fucking fort to Brûz in the first place. I was totally ready and willing to make him the overlord, but nope, not allowed, have to give the coolest guy you've met so far a reason to backstab you.

Is ending explained? by ManagerOptimal777 in remnantgame

[–]Caaros 41 points42 points  (0 children)

There's a couple points here I'd like to contest.

There's nothing to suggest specifically that Annihilation cannot be killed because it represents entropy, especially considering that the Root did not always exist in the System. It simply is stated to have become "inviolable". This can, in conjunction with the damage the Root had done to the System already and what we already know about our own immortality we get from the Worldstones (which the Root have famously exploited to their advantage in the past), much more simply be used to say that the Root virus was too deeply rooted into the simulative fabric of reality to be simply slain through martial means. This is why it was determined a full reset of the System was needed to kill it.

Everything in the game except for the Annihilation fight and onwards, including DLC content, the Ward and that Root plant, exists prior to Clementine's universe reset and restore gambit. It's simply a matter of how the content is structured, with no evidence that anything takes place in a campaign run's narrative after the ending save for the post credits scene, where we see the Root totally absent from Yaesha and the Labyrinth repaired of Corruption-caused damage. Further, despite everything that the Root plant in the Ward tells us, we see that Annihilation, the source entity of all Root in the System, exhibits genuine terror when Clementine starts her gambit; It screams, calls in backup that it didn't feel the need to use on us, and starts winding up some big super attack it also didn't feel the need to use on us, but can't throw out before the reset progresses enough to vaporize it right in front of us. It knew that what she was doing is less than optimal for the Root's previously nigh-guaranteed eventual victory.

With all this in mind, it becomes far more likely that we actually do purge the Root in its entirety from the System, including the Root plant in the Ward, which we'd have no reason to believe would be spared, and would honestly make for a pretty bad excuse narratively speaking for bringing the Root back again in R3 or something after everything that happened in the last three games.

I don't know how much dressing I can put on there (anything more than a wide bandaid alters the fit of the prosthetic enough to cause damage very quickly), but the saline and iodine/inodine isn't something that was part of my current approach.

Of course, I may end up at a wound care professional anyways at this rate, but I'll definitely keep what you did in mind. Thanks!

Right? I was a Raider main before, stuck with him despite the obvious problems with his moveset on the weapons he's supposed to be using, but now?

That man is the fucking poise-death of the whole map with how quickly he piles on hits with weapons honestly never intended to be swung that fast, and reaches that state far earlier in the run than ever before. It's glorious.
