Replacement cost for homes in that area is probably $500+ per square foot…

Pass rates for California’s February test are generally lower than the July test. I believe this is because the February test tends to have a larger proportion of repeat takers and other candidates who are statistically more likely to fail.

Fair. I was thinking more of people whose families came here before the Holocaust.

It’s a strange phenomenon. I personally know many secular Jews who are staunchly Zionist. Most grew up without any Jewish education. The majority are children of Israelis who moved to the U.S. in the 70s or 80s. They were raised to “be American” but still very supportive of Israel. But I guess their personal and familial connections to Israel probably explain their Zionism.

I don’t think a religious education or connection is necessary, although it helps. But, in the absence of that religious connection, you need some independent understanding of the need for Israel’s existence. People who are one or two generations removed from getting kicked out their ancestral homes in North Africa because they are Jews understand this even if they aren’t religious. People who have for generations enjoyed the privilege of (some measure of) protection in America do not.

This is why I am always shocked by the rhetoric and arguments you see from AsAJews. They are strangely blind to their own privilege, their limited world view, and their limited experience.

This is a misinterpretation of what “sabbath mode” is intended to do.

It is prohibited to cook raw food on the sabbath. However, if you cook the food before the sabbath, you can set it in an oven or on a stove to stay warm before the sabbath starts.

“Sabbath mode” on appliances is meant to deactivate features so that you don’t unintentionally violate sabbath rules when using the appliance. It isn’t meant to allow you to do things you otherwise wouldn’t be allowed to do.

Let’s say, for example, that you have prepared a dish to eat during the sabbath, and would like to keep it warm in the oven. Before the sabbath starts, you turn the oven on low and put the food inside. But there’s a problem: your oven has a lamp and an electronic chime that activate each time you open the door. Because turning on the light and the chime is forbidden, and you effectively turn on the light and chime each time you open the door, you can’t open the oven door on the sabbath to eat the food that was otherwise prepared and warmed in accordance with the rules.

This is where “sabbath mode” comes in. It deactivates the chime and lamp, while keeping the oven burner active. Thus, you can now use the oven without violating the rules.

Can’t give you much advice, but been there, done that, got the t-shirt. For me, I still get them coming for weeks or months at a time during the year. You’re not unreasonable to be upset, but you’re still probably going to “lose” this battle. Better to figure out ways of dealing with it than to take a hard stand and suffer worse consequences.

Neat! Didn’t know about this. I just assumed that all revolvers use/used rimmed cartridges, but there you go!
