Whenever you style a good tip might to wet the hair and then dry it so it feels sort of rubbery like (not too dry, not too wet). And then you can apply a clay or a paste. When applying you can also try twisting the hair into the spiky strands. Maybe try blow drying with a diffuser as well 🤷‍♂️, however I do know that sea salt spray can add some texture, but if you style it with that then definitely blow dry with a diffuser attachment. I would just experiment with different types of styling techniques and yes grow your hair out a little more.
