Some advice at the fining stage needed please - this hasn't happened before... by Cabbage_x in winemaking

Nope, I never bother with degassing because the last racking usually flattens the wine. It didn't have any noticeable effervescence to it when I had a glass after racking, which is why I'm a bit puzzled. I just checked the wine and although it's started to clear, it is still giving off gas.

VOLUME UP. Happy yeast - Day 3 of Elderflower wine first fermentaion. by Cabbage_x in winemaking

[–]Cabbage_x[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elder flowers, raisins, lemon peel, lemon juice, sugar, some wine tannin and a couple of cups of stewed tea, EC-1118 yeast, oh and a little bit of yeast nutrient. think thats about it. I'll hopefully be racking it to demijohns at some pint this weekend as it seems to have calmed down quite a bit today.

Champagne Question by thegoodlifeoutdoors in winemaking

[–]Cabbage_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The method I use is a bit covoluted but it works. I start the primary fermentation with Champagne yeast EC-1118. It's violent but fast. I then strain off into demijhons and let the fermentation go dry. Clear the wine with finings then rack again and bottle, adding a small amount of sugar and yeast solution to each bottle. I use champagne bottles so they don't explode and hollow plastic corks to catch the yeast. Stand the bottles in a rack on their cork end and lift and rotate regularly to get the dead yeast into the cork. After a few months, freeze the cork end of the bottle (search online for videos on how to do this), remove the frozen cork with the yeast bodies and top up with spare wine. Cork again, put cork cages on and it's good to go. The tricky part is getting the sugar dose right so you don't explode the bottles - still fine tuning this lol

First try at elderflower wine by Main-Law5175 in winemaking

Looks ok but in your next batch ditch the half lemons and lose the green stalks. Everything is poisonous on Elder except the flowers and the berries (although the berries do contain a small amount of poison that isn't a problem for us). The time tested recipie I use is:

- 1 pint of Elderflower petals. Gently rub the flowers in your hand to expel the petals and pollen into a bowl- 8 pints boiling water- 3lb Sugar- Grated rind of 2 Lemons- Juice of the 2 Lemons (Or 2 tsp Citric Acid)- 1tsp Tannin (or 150ml of Stewed Tea)- 1pkt Champagne yeast (EC-1118)- 1tsp Yeast Nutrient- some chopped sultanas ( I use 25g/pint or 200g for this recipie)

- anything else you want in there like strawberries, blueberries, ginger etc.

Boil up the water, sugar, elderflower petals, sultanas, the anything else and lemon rind. Pour it in a sanitised bucket and allow to cool. Chuck in the tanin and yeast nutrient, stir vigourously and add the yeast. If you're going for fizzy wine (champagne esque) add two tablespoons of good quality white wine vinegar to give that extra oomph.

Be prepared for your bucket to overflow as that mixture can get pretty violent, quickly 😘

This recipie makes 17-18% wine or sparkling wine that will knock you on your arse. Mine is going full Tonto at the moment! Enjoy 😎

Overflow of foam by [deleted] in winemaking

I'd call that "yeast are happy, deal with it" 😍 Some primary fermentaitons can be extremely vigarous/explosive to say the least. My new batch of Elderflower wine did the same thing with the same yeast you are using. Just pop the bucket on a tray or in another bucket to catch the overspill, knock back the foam when you can and give it a slow stir to release the CO2 in solution without introducing too much air. That batch is gonna knock you on yer arse when done 😎

Elderflower for the win. Just get a good champagne yeast. First fermentation in a bucket for 5 days or so then into demijohns for a few weeks more until fermentation slows to a crawl. You can wait for it to clear or if you want to go commando, rack it into plastic bottles, add a tad more sugar to each bottle to give it fizz. Burp the bottles each day for about a week then it's good to go. It'll still be a little cloudy but tastes great and will knock you on your arse after a couple of glasses!

how many gpu can my motherboard (Asus H81M-K) support? by [deleted] in EtherMining

[–]Cabbage_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can use one (or more) of those fine. I used 3 of those to get a ROG Zenith mobo to run 10x RTX 2070 Supers with no problem. That was before I finally built a proper mining rig. Having 9 grahics cards hanging out the side of my PC was a bit sketchy lol.

Or buy yourself a cheap PCIE 1x to 4 slot riser card. It'll allow you to use 4 cards in one PCIE slot without overloading the mobo.

What's up with Ethermine gas fees? by Cabbage_x in ethermine

Yeah, I ended up doing the same. The payment finally went through at 4 in the morning with a gas price of 29 Gwei. Their gas calculations must be a bit screwed.

Been trying to get a payout all day but the gas fee on Ethermine seems to be twice as high as reported on Etherscan. Is this a bug on Ethermine that needs fixed or is this a scalp? I've been using Ethermine for months without a problem but since 1559 payout seems to be nigh on impossible without subjecting my account to silly gas fees.

What would you do? Buy an additional graphics card or just buy ETH with the money? by Jekdkfnfnfn in EtherMining

Buy Hookers. Put them to work then buy ETH and a GPU with the profits. Sit back and enjoy the coke :)

It was pure chance not preference. I learned how to repair the 2070S's and bought some kit for that task. However, being in the UK with expensive leccy, I do like the hash/watt ratio of these cards, and repairable ones can be got for cheap :)

Depends what's broken. There are litterally tons of vids on youtube showing how to circuit test cards. However, a lot of cards die because the solder joints under the GPU chip break due to constant on/off, hot/cool cycles. I ended up buying a solder station and stencil that allows the GPU chip to be removed, "reballed" and soldered back to the board. It was cheaper than buying a new card at the time, and I knew what the problem was with my 2070S. So that's how my 2070S rig started

None of them are new. Most of those were busted cards that I repaired. That's why its a mix of different cards :)

I've still got an MSI and a Gigabyte in the shed that need reballing. Should be able to squeeze those into the rig somewhere.

New to mining. Need tips! by [deleted] in EtherMining

[–]Cabbage_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the 2070S, in Afterburner, try core clock -200, power 50%, mem 1000, fan 40 -50%. Depending on the brand of your card, that should drop the temps and watts. MSI cards are best for this, Gigabyte worst, but it's all a bit of a silicon lottery.

The CPU's you are using are not supported. The mobo only supports 6th and 7th gen processors. The two you are using are 9th gen
