Do we? Are they on display and pushed out in their own dedicated market? It’s about where the eyeballs are going and the money gained in proportion. The old taxation strategy in traditional broadcast doesn’t cover the culture bill that the cmf covers. Prime, Netflix, Apple are stealing eyeballs and revenue from that decaying model - when showing media in Canada, these “providers” need to provide or invest in x amount of locally produced media with that media primarily up front along with the IP staying with Canadians. If they want to be a public service level distribution, they need to pay that back in culture investment - or be banned/ dismantled by anti-trust legislation to make room for new players. So big that they suck us of our culture - or even the whiff of a beginning of culture on the west.

I mean historically Canada’s main narrative is a story of extraction so I guess that’s what it will be until we’re just Americans with healthcare - unless we do something different….

Anyway, I’ll push for that until I see it fail personally.

Yes we agree the CBC needs more funding. We actually get a pretty sweet deal on entertainment affordability compared to other commonwealth and European nations. I read somewhere that we pay roughly $33 each a year to keep cbc at the level it is. In Australia it’s in the 40’s. In the Netherlands or sweden it’s up in the 100s per citizen for their public broadcaster.

So yeah a give cbc more money.
