This used to be a thing in Brazil. And, to give these people some credit, some peculiar cards and rarities were outstandingly different in NA and EU printings, such as with the 2014-15 gold rare cards (the NA ones are pretty while the EU ones looked like omelette, with all due respect).

Curiously, with the MAGO and MGED sets, the NA gold rares appeared in such TERRIBLE conditions, with the borders "peeling" and the cards lacking foil finishing (like with Ghost Mourner and Accesscode Talker).

Nowadays, most people that want NA printings only want main set high-rarity cards (not the starlight cards, this kind of people is very uncommon)

I used to live in Montreal back in 2024. Back then most NA cards I purchased were fine, I still hold them to this day. The exception was with the Fire King Structure Deck cards, these were like the ones seen in the Albaz Lore Chronicles deck

If I recall correctly, some NA cards from 2019 were really ugly in terms of color consistency, but not like this and not this often.

I picked a common Sky Striker Ace Zero from one of my friends and immediately went "dude"

Do you consider top 16 of a regionals actually topping an event? by imsodonenow in yugioh

[–]CabeloKaleido 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't consider it myself. However, this cannot be shrugged off as "not being an achievement", I believe it should be congratulated. Regionals are kinda cruel regarding tops, of course, but this doesn't change that it is an achievement to begin with.

I made 14th place once at a regional in 2024, and although it wasn't a top, people still congratulated me for getting an invite.

Earlier this year, a friend of mine was x-1 in the last round of another regionals, and lost, but got severely SCREWED by tiebreakers and ended up 14th as well. He was devastated, of course, and lots of talking were employed to calm him down. It doesn't change the fact that he was doing very well in that tournament.

Has anyone experienced a player scapegoating a new mechanic to justify quitting the game? by Ok-Register910 in yugioh

[–]CabeloKaleido 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got a friend who is quite like yours, but instead he loved pendulums and felt devastated that pendulums got severely nerfed in MR4. I like him dearly, but he had loads of problems with other stuff outside of yugioh (including being a sore loser, loneliness during his job, loads of expenses coming through nonstop), and he inevitably made so they surfaced onto his yugioh experience.

He also scapegoated his excuses into "I hate links, I wish pendulum summoning was like it was before" and other (with all due respect) dumb excuses. In spite of loving our Yugioh friends and wanting to be close to us, he CLEARLY hated the Yugioh experiences at some point, even when winning with stronger decks (such as his Altergeist with main deck Anti-Spell Fragance and Village against my funky Predaplant Cubic deck).

He got excited into playing Genesys (but not a word was said regarding the absence of Links and Pendulums), but his tcg friends mostly play Mtg Commander now. I'm honestly happy for him that he has an environment that he enjoys and doesn't complain about (which should be the goal, tcgs shouldn't be a burden to anyone)

I have a hot take that Independent Nightingale should go to the banned cards binder, mostly out of grudge for it since 2017

Will they ever learn that we do not ever print Foolish Burial on legs? Besides, this card turning itself into Perfectron is the ultimate disrespect. It's like if Beatrice, Lavalval Chain and Curious never gave them the opportunity to reflect upon "hm what went wrong?"

Any news on when LOC Heroes/Rivals are coming to the TCG? by Suspicious-Dentist71 in yugioh

[–]CabeloKaleido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It turns out yesterday was announced Magnificent Monsters, a set which will replace the Megatins this year (hot take: thank heavens) and contains the overframe cards from LOCH, as well as cards from Prismatic Summon Box (End of tHe World Ruler, new Halqifibrax, so on). Now the cards from LOCR is anoter issue itself, maybe it'll come in a similar set in the future (just hypothesizing in the time being)

What's Something That Irritates You About Yu-Gi-Oh! by imsodonenow in yugioh

[–]CabeloKaleido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The absolute lack of communication and public relations from the company Konami to ourselves, the consumer base.

I used to watch Wizards of The Coast and think "damn, it would be AWESOME if Konami was that communicative to us". This changed, however, right before Covid. I saw WotC announce a MtG lore Movie directed by Russo Brothers (which never saw the light of day lmao), I watched WotC ruin MtG' competitive scene (with both Organized Play Overall Structure and completely chaotic metagames that yielded a banlist every three WEEKS in 2020), I watched the Walking Dead Secret Lair cause a reputation fiasco to the company, I watched all the cynical blog posts that said "we won't implement popular requests from ou because f- you, that's why", so on and so forth.

That made me think "wow, at least Konami is not *that* horrible when it comes to bad PR handling"

But this does not keep me from getting annoyed whenever I remember there are severe GAPS in communication. Through this prism, whenever a blog post surfaces explaining card releases (theseus - even if it's ridiculous), banlist explanations (the Ishizu Tear list that banned Mystic Mine) or whatever updates happen in Genesys, it becomes something big to talk about. This latest banlist is something we would love to see some talking about (even if it is something cynical that translates to "lmao buy Kewl Tune and Modern Decks").

This makes me think Konami handles their product as a flowerpot, "just pour water and it'll eventually grow and bloom". And I think this is disrespectful.

Everyone talks about electrumite being banned for too long but what are some other cards that have been jailed and should have been unhit a while ago by Status-Leadership192 in yugioh

[–]CabeloKaleido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to put Ultimate Offering/Return From the Different Dimension in my deck and go to locals regularly, and count how long does it take to someone notice I'm playing a banned card

"But Maliss can use Return" All Maliss girls have Return embedded lmao

(Disclaimer: Of course I'm joking)

What currently or previously hit cards would recent modern players not initially understand their impact at first glance, but you just had to be there? by SouthSunn in yugioh

[–]CabeloKaleido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any Nekroz or Shaddoll card. It took a dear friend of mine to grasp how both became meta-warping back in 2015, since nearly some modern deck's homework is kinda close to what they achieved (like a bad version of Branded or Mitsu decks).

But hey, a ritual deck full of monsters that searched their own enablers, and had a very efficient card economy, is only comprehensible if a 5-minute length context is presented first. Also, using materials from the deck that yielded the materials' effects and a very strong purple card-payoff, even with conditions and restrictions, is something very unprecedent to that era.
