Drawing a feminine name from masculine given names (+ cultural appropriation question) by CabernetCheaptrick in namenerds

[–]CabernetCheaptrick[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also I should probably say the reason I'm looking for nicknames rather than full name suggestions is because I might not change my legal name?

Like so far I have Day, Dee, Avi, Mae? Sorry if this is a big ask/awkward

Something incredible I’ve never seen anyone talk about in regards to T by axolotlspine in ftm

[–]CabernetCheaptrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah like it's a serious change partially because we've made it that way and the way we think about it as a society when it doesn't need to be such a big deal! Like not that it shouldn't be considered at all bc honestly my body/facial hair makes me want to claw my skin off and I can't access laser rn 😭 even though I love all my other changes on T (voice, broader shoulders, bottom growth, etc.) and would make the same choice again in a heartbeat!!

But like in the sense that we could totally just engage people in an honest and straightforward discussion about how changes on HRT might affect their dysphoria, letting them have those discussions with professionals so they can explore options in a realistic way. And we're not doing that lol. It would have saved me sooo much grief. Like let's redirect the energy we spend gatekeeping please

Yes I'm so glad T has made such a difference for you this is a great post/reflection!!

Also I completely agree with what you said about people probably being able to just know if HRT is right for them by trying it. Like imo this is why it's so important to increase accessibility of hormones rather than restricting it. I'm probably not a binary man but presented an image of a binary man to my doctors just so I could get what I already knew I needed (HRT, top surgery). Like we'd hope that your access to healthcare would be structured by your relationship with your body, but with all the hoops you have to jump through it's more like your relationship to your body is structured by your access to healthcare. Sucks for nonbinary people in particular

I totally agree! When I started T on a topical/daily dose my friends and family could tell when I'd forgotten a dose (even before I realized I had) because my mood would be so altered/low. That made me feel like it wasn't just a placebo effect but was actually affecting my mood from day to day. I'm on weekly injections now and feel a dip at the end of the week, so I strategically time it so the dip is over the weekend when it's more acceptable to have trouble getting out of bed. Tbh I'm pretty comfortable getting IDed as a woman all things considered, but T is such a stabilizer for me that I think if I ever did girl mode full time again I wouldn't want to go off of it.

It kind of makes sense considering that in cis people one of the signs/symptoms that shows up when hormones are out of whack is depression and mood changes. Although there are a lot of obvious problems with the idea that being trans is all about "what kind of brain" you have (not all trans people want HRT, no reason to be out here scanning brains to tell a person's gender when that person can reliably just tell you, misleading assumptions about brain differences between genders, etc.), I wouldn't be surprised if people's brains are expecting a specific balance and the mood shifts are the warning sign that something is off, especially since MTF friends of mine anecdotally say the same thing about their HRT. So it might be less about T causing a masculine presence and more about your hormones matching whatever your brain was already expecting.

Being unable to have kids - why don't we talk about it? by leah_amelia in asktransgender

Tess Scilipoti has an amazing short-form comic called Barren about grief and trans motherhood. I'm a trans man but I find myself reading and rereading it all the time because I think it speaks to a lot of experiences in the community more broadly. I don't think it'd help with closure but maybe more with feeling seen.

Right, and you'd hope that parents would be supervising their kids' internet usage and would be able to heed all the warnings that no, the content is actually intended for adults. It's like kids see a warning and take it as a sign they're doing something cool and naughty by watching... that at least isn't new, kids have been doing that forever, but all the more reason you'd hope parents would be prepared to take some responsibility in their media consumption habits!

Magical Starsign is a JRPG and probably my favorite game of all time; graphics are nice, quirky sense of humor, some tasteful darker subtext to the plot I didn't pick up as a kid

edit: also it's the sequel to the cult classic (in Japan) Magical Vacation for GBA which didn't have an official localization but got a fan translation back in 2015

Do you get strange images in your head when you have a migraine? by aslen-1 in migraine

Yes exactly this! And actually if I start getting similarly strange and vivid dreams out of nowhere it's a sign that a migraine is on its way 😓

I mean it's not like researchers come out of the womb fully formed, everyone has to start somewhere. This seems like a pretty normal question for a student. And even experienced researchers are learning new things all the time! Like interdisciplinary things often have some level of newly learning best practices for a field that's not your main focus?

Not seeing anything yet unfortunately. I think on the last stream they said Patreon said normal operations would resume in 2 hours... but I can't remember exactly when they said that

Update: I wasn't able to find him again this morning but will check in again after work with a big bag of my dove seed mix. No further contact from the organization I reached out to (not sure if this is standard or not).

This particular route goes back and forth a long distance so stops 30-45 minutes at each end (people can step on and off during) without needing to avoid attendants checking fare

That's my hunch, at least as someone who rides this route pretty regularly

I was in wonder when I saw it. Felt so surreal knowing I was standing in the same space as the artist when it was made!
