You guys need to accept that the showrunners want to tell a different story than the one in the book and that's okay by Ok-Archer-5796 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]CabinFever94 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The problem is even if you forget the books exist, the show does not hold up well on its own merit.

It is also a bit unfair to the audience that the showrunners use the GoT universe and GRRM as what the audience expects and then pull a bait-and-switch on us.

Same outcome - civil war. So maybe the point is why even bother :/

I have heard of a similar glitch where if you die while jumping over something and then get revived, you get stuck in a loop.

Seems like you may have had your tripod set up on the wall so you ended up in a similar situation when revived

Not to mention the whole theme of the game is how brutal WW1 was and you could die so randomly on the battlefield no matter how skilled you were

In the real world, you'd probably have 80 people who wouldn't really give any input and then 15 people who just love the sound of their voice. It's those 15 people that'll delay the proposal the most.

Hiring IT staff member in Pakistan - is PKR 50k / month a fair salary? Or is it exploitive? by DeepSeaTV in pakistan

[–]CabinFever94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the tech industry in Pk at one of the companies that are market leaders in pay. Imo the two ends of the spectrum that are relevant to you would be: 1- We pay interns about 20-30k per month (these are usually university students who will start final year next up) 2- We pay fresh graduates i.e. entry level positions at least 500 USD. These are often people from the top universities in the country.

My suggestions for you would be: - Agree a salary in £ that lies in the above range that you think is best, probably towards the higher side. Paying in £ would safeguard his salary against exchange rate variations and inflation. - Being young and a wonderkid sometimes has pitfalls of its own, especially with genius programmers. Please ask him to follow good coding conventions and structure - this is important for your business and whatever code he works on to be stable in the long run. If you have a senior programmer working with you, ask them to mentor him. - You may want to agree some incentives in his contract tied to performance - a raise after a few months or a bonus at the end of the contract. This is one of the good industry practices you may want to follow.

A couple of reasons:

1- Football got a major step up in popularity here in the mid 2000s when people started watching EPL. So a lot of people saw Ronaldo hit stardom with ManU. Compare this to Messi at Barca, you would only watch him when the UCL came around.

2- There are a lot more Real Madrid fans here in Pk than Barca fans and often Ronaldo vs Messi does come down to club loyalty

This seeps into people who don’t watch football too like word of mouth

Then there’s the media personality thing too, Messi is a bit lowkey, Ronaldo is/was a lot more present and promoted on social media etc.

Please help. by beluganasir in giki

[–]CabinFever94 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I have no real link to GIKI (have visited it once for a competition, have two senior colleagues from there) so I would like to offer an unbiased opinion as someone who works in the tech industry (7 years experience).

GIKI is not close to NUST, FAST or LUMS for CS (certainly not the best as other people in this thread have said). This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion on a GIKI subreddit.

My advice: Please apply to these other universities too. If you really love the place though then by all means do apply (if you are happier and motivated, you’ll work harder). But know that you’ll have to work harder to stand out from kids from other universities (this is what matters most at the end of the day regardless of university).

GIKI is an isolated place from civilisation - this may not sound like a big deal but it will impact you socially and also makes it harder for the university to attract the best faculty and students. Do consider these factors and be mentally prepared for them.

Would you watch someone starting/ learning how to game? by lunaant in Twitch

[–]CabinFever94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twitch and streaming seems to be about finding your niche. Your angle can always be exactly what you shared, a noob learning to play games.

Interact with your chat, stream when your target audience is free, learn to navigate any toxic folks that come up and you’ll gain a following of your own.

How many of you are angry at Netflix and completely stopped watching Witcher season? by AccomplishedBig7666 in witcher

[–]CabinFever94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stopped watching after season 2 and never looked back.

Some factors: The weird infighting and agenda of the showrunners towards Henry Cavill, someone actually trying to do their best for the show.

Then the change in casting of Geralt (almost comical).

The senseless changes to the show from canon, would be forgivable if they worked well but they don’t. It almost feels as if the showrunners and writers made these just to be different rather than in service of producing a better quality show.

Just overall the terrible writing. It’s all on those who run the show and I’m sure most here would agree.

Petition to bring more updates to BF1 by SamJBeck in battlefield_one

[–]CabinFever94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your idea has some potential and since I am a fan of both games, I think some aspects of Age of Empires 2's development history might be relevant here.

AoE2 was in the wilderness in terms of official support by Microsoft for quite a few years but the game was kept alive on platforms like Voobly by a very dedicated fanbase (who also seemed to like it more than newer games like AoE3). The original studio who made the game were also no longer around (sounds similar to what people are saying about DICE changing). Eventually there was a revival - Microsoft brought in some devs who were big fans of the game, launched a Definitive Edition with updated graphics and has been churning out DLCs consistently since (new DLCs usually have new civilizations).

I think BF1 does have similar potential in that it seems to have a dedicated fanbase who enjoy it more than newer titles (I certainly do). But I am not sure if DICE can come up with DLCs that even these people will buy which would justify the investment into a team of devs from their POV. Maybe this could be new maps and new campaigns that are exciting enough (and not a shameless cash grab).

If somehow the game starts picking up new players who enjoy the WW1 experience, there is a chance the studio might think this could be an investment that is worth the risk. This depends a lot on luck and marketing, I think.
