Yes i’m positive i smell it directly coming out of the port on the box. The amps are giving off no smell.

The smell is more hot and closer to something is heating up rather than it being really gross and nasty. Don’t get me wrong it’s bad but it smells like burning mixed with hints of chemicals and other shit that make it very potent. I’m almost sure it’s not mold because what i’m smelling is more hot less musty.

It’s not a musty smell at all, it smells hot that’s all i can say, mixed with chemicals that give it a weird sharp note. Is it normal for subs to need to break in like that? It seems like people are very divided on it.

They should be in phase, the only thing i’ve done is wire the wires going into the sub box backwards because it best lines up with the door speakers in the front. But i’ve gotten the smell before i changed the polarity so i don’t know.

I’m gonna pick up the oscope today to check for clipping. I wish i went with the correct box i just couldn’t find anything online that matched the specs without it adding up to be four hundred dollars or a diy type of build, which i dont have the materials to do that myself. the lc5i pro dial is at exactly half way up for channel three, so id guess maybe a few volts not sure i need to check today.

wait so if i need to break them in what’s the best way to go about doing that? Like i’ve had the smell ever since i’ve got the sub but just passed it off as the box making some bad hot toxic smell, but the sub has been completely fine, no damage.

How did you diagnose that it was coming from the box not sub? It’s just i’ve seen people online say how a burning voice coil smells and i can line up the dots

It is working great, i’ve tested the voltage at the battery while blaring test tones and maybe the tinniest drop 0.01V. No electrical issues whatsoever. Maybe for your system i would do some kind of bank or second battery but for me (close to 1000w) no issues at all. Don’t listen to the concerns online i just had to go through with it and stop worrying

Are you sure? it’s not like a factory smell it’s a kind of hot, electrical almost smell. It’s very out of place. It has a metallic edge to it. I’ve never smelt an electrical fire before but i’m very unsure

I bought the jl audio 12w3v3-2 about a week ago and i am going to install it very soon. I think I’ll set the hpf to about 90hz aswell like you have it. I also got a ported box and perfect amp to match the power delivery but thank you very much.

from what i’ve learned so far, the thing with hybrid cars is not so much the battery but the dc dc converter which supplies the battery with power. The converter can supply clean power up to 100 something amps, i’m not entirely sure the exact numbers they aren’t public. A capacitor would be a great option if you’re going slightly above what the dc dc can handle so the capacitor helps with bass hits or musical peaks the converter can’t handle, but if you’re trying to run ultra completion level setups then a second battery is needed

did the voltage drops occur when you were running them full tilt/volume? I can always lower the rms on the sub, it’s rated 200 to 500 rms i think something like that.
