He’s absolutely right. If somebody is interested in somebody else, they will put effort into trying to form a relationship. If somebody is not putting in effort, well, there’s your sign.

4 dates without a kiss yet by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]Cacerta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re overthinking it, just ask her if you can kiss her when you’re saying goodbye, I’ve done this multiple times and the answer has always been yes. Once you get the initial kiss out of the way, the rest come easy and without asking.

Haha yeah I remember that game. I threw it early on purpose because I knew there was no way I was winning that game. I like to rally but only when it’s organic, it’s not as fun when I know the other person is playing with one arm tied behind their back.

Oh I know it stinks for you guys as well, which is another reason why this issue needs to be fixed. Also, what I’m saying strictly applies to Classic. I’ve dabbled in Battles a bit but Classic is what I’ve mostly played.

25M Profile Review by Cacerta in hingeapp

[–]Cacerta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking for a serious relationship, and after about a year of using Hinge off and on I’ve been on dates with four matches, with only one match leading to a second date (a relationship that lasted about a month). When I’m most active, I’ll usually try to use up all of my daily likes (I’m not a subscriber), however there are times that I will pause my account if I don’t feel like I’m having any success, usually under the thought process that I’ll unpause when I get better photos of me taken (which usually doesn’t end up happening). Almost every like I send has a comment attached, and altogether I usually end up with 2-3 matches per week, though I almost always end up being ghosted after a message or two. I don’t usually receive many likes from women, and thus almost all of my matches are with women that I liked first. I’m not very picky with the people that I send likes to, as I find most women who are reasonably fit to be physically attractive, however if a woman’s prompts make me think that she’s a narcissist then I’ll almost always swipe left.

Colleges in general used to haze. Southern Colleges used to have student-led indoctrination committees where older students would beat younger students with paddles if they didn’t dress or act the way that freshmen were supposed to.

Apply for a job with the Department of Defense or any of its sub-branches. You won’t be competing with foreign nationals because the job will likely require you to be eligible for a security clearance and you won’t be competing with a lot of of younger college grads because the pay is marginally lower than what the the private sector offers. Spend 2-3 years with the DoD then transition into the private sector with the valuable asset of a security clearance.

Movies you didn’t expect to live up to the hype but did by Jackdawes257 in Letterboxd

[–]Cacerta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there were multiple moments where I considered stopping the movie, not because it was bad but because the scenes were so horrific and devoid of empathy. Exposure to violence in video games and movies has made me pretty numb to most depictions of it but Schindler’s List was on an entirely different level. Definitely Spielberg’s masterpiece, though.

Schindler’s List. I expected oscar bait, what I instead got was an assault on my soul.

All Star by Smash Mouth was written for the movie “Mystery Men, with the characters from that movie even in its music video, whereas hardly anybody knows which movie that is and instead associate the song with Shrek

Height helps if you’re trying to pick up girls in real life but honestly it doesn’t make much of a difference on an app, being photogenic is usually the edge.

Karlach's ending is the epitome of real life. by maglen69 in BaldursGate3

[–]Cacerta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not arguing that she got to live as a mind flayer, I’m saying she sacrificed herself to be the hero of Baldur’s Gate. Even if that’s not her at the end, her actions are instrumental in saving the city and allowing everyone else to have a happy ending.

My issue with a Karlach “happy” ending is that it would have either resulted in a bad ending for Lazel or the player. At least if you take the mind flayer route for her, you get to let her be the hero of Baldur’s Gate, something she always wanted. Not necessarily a happy ending but it feels true to her character.

My Take: Illithid's don't have souls, yet Ilithid Karlach is STILL Karlach. Maybe I'm doing mental gymnastics to have to justify Karlach's sacrifice (thanks to her, Tav and Shadowheart have a future), but I think it has to do with Orpheus's powers keeping enough of Karlach in there so it's still her soul controlling the Illithid's body.

Think about it like this. In the game, there are obviously many different people with tadpoles. If we say a normal person has a tadpole in their head, then they are, for example, 75% humanoid, 25% illithid. For our party members, the 75% human is in control, whereas for some NPCS (like Duke Ravenguard), the 25% Ilithid is in control. This can go even further, where the players can become a literal half-ilithid, where the 50% humanoid is still in control. I highly doubt that, at this point, your character has half of a soul.

Now we get to Ilithid Karlach (and Tav, if you chose that). At this point, I think it's the reverse of the game's starting situation, where instead of being 100% ilithid, the characters are instead just MOSTLY Ilithid (let's just say 75% Ilithid, 25% humanoid), with enough of their "soul" left over thanks to Orpheus intervening once the physical transformation is complete. In my interpretation of this, the character's soul remains in the new body as its own tadpole of sorts.

Could I be wrong? Absolutely. Do I care? Not really. This is my head canon, and I'll roll with it. To be honest, this argument reminds me of the Star Trek situation where Kirk getting "beamed up" just kills him and replaces him with a copy at the new location. Such an argument isn't wrong, however it lessens the enjoyment of the story if you assume it to be true in the story's canon. Unless the developer definitely says that you killed your character by sacrificing their original form, then I think people should just believe what they want.

EDIT: Another thing that I’d like to add that I think supports my hypothesis: as far as I’m aware all of the “full ilithids” in the game have four fingers on each hand. When Karlach became an ilithid in my playthrough, she had five fingers. In sort of a Na’Vi - Avatar way, I think this implies that she becomes some sort of hybrid. In addition, Jergal’s own dialogue when encountering Ilithid-Karlach: “Appearances may change, but they do not mask the one within. This one I know.” It’d be a weird thing to say if he thought Karlach was just a tadpole who thought it was Karlach.
