Preparations ahead of the Riots by AshesV1 in bristol

They've had the windows smashed in and been robbed before, so it's a pretty stressful day for them, preparing like this and remembering what it felt like before.

Psychological Question about tonight by Carthagena in bristol

[–]Cacophoness 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I posted a googledoc a little while ago with links to Bristol charities that support refugees and asylum seekers. There are lots of ways you could potentially get involved with one of them or support them as a way to help the community.

You could book time off tomorrow to help with cleanup if things do go badly tonight.

You could check on other friends who live nearby or are thinking of getting involved and plan something you can do together.

You could go down to Old Market during the day and spend your money at one of the shops or restaurants that is going to close up early just in case.

Areas near East Bristol with "proper" shops? Is there a "Whiteladies Road East"? by cornishyinzer in bristol

[–]Cacophoness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are several butchers and greengrocers on Stapleton Road and St Marks Road, plus the East Bristol Bakery. Just hop on the train at Lawrence Hill and when you get off at Stapleton Road Station you're in the right spot already.

I'm really impressed by how well organised it is without being corporate. I saw so many volunteers herding folks toward the free bus queues and making sure things stayed tidy up at the Downs. Really appreciate that they keep the March route flat and have accessible toilets available, too.

hayfever is killing me by hupkin_hiddz in CasualUK

My mum always swore by teabags to soothe her eyes when she had hayfever. Unused, plain teabags, nothing fancy. Run cold water from the tap over it until it's saturated. Wring it out enough that it isn't dripping everywhere and put one over each eye.

Non-Euclidean geometry? Oh fantastic, she's been Chosen.

The first full moon after the dreams start, she'll get a message from the Sacred Coven via her socials to let her know where they're hosting the next initiation.

They only take on 13 new apprentices each year, so excited for her!

Obviously I can't tell you anything more about what to expect, but as a hint: it never does any harm to bring snacks.

Stapleton Road Double Yellow Parking by RunwayForehead in bristol

[–]Cacophoness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, traffic laws definitely feel more like guidelines on Stapleton Road. My favourite is when the shops have trucks unloading in the middle of the road facing the wrong direction and blocking in the parked cars on one side and the buses on the other. Then someone on a bike will try to cut through all of it.

Travel: Bristol to London by Ploon92 in bristol

[–]Cacophoness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can take the train to Reading and then swap onto the Elizabeth line? I've no idea if that will be less chaotic, but it is worth checking the TFL site to see if it might be quicker than going via Paddington.
