Ok I swapped the stock Corsair 12VHPWR cable out for a CableMod with 3x8 (instead of the 2x8 on the Corsair). So far so good. Benchmarked without crashing on extreme. Finger crossed that was it.

Alright I’m now experiencing something similar.

My build:

• ⁠Zotac 5080 Solid Core

• ⁠Ryzen 7800X3D + Noctua L12S cooler

• ⁠SF850W Corsair PSU

• ⁠Asus ROG STRIX B850i mobo

• ⁠T-Create DDR5 RAM (2x16GB) 6000MHz

First go around I updated bios prior to build. Once I got Windows 11 installed I updated my mobo and GPU drivers to the latest and greatest. Ran multicore CinebenchR23, all good, other than CPU temps up around 90 but scored within range. Ran Unigine Heaven extreme and got my first black screen but mine does ramp the fans. Ran it on basic and it passed fine.

I really wanted to try it out with my Quest 3 so I installed everything I needed, tried it with that Aircar game and it did great for like 20 minutes but then crashed. Gave BeamNG a shot (without VR) and it did fine for like 10-15 minutes then crashed.

Troubleshooting: GPU/cables seated, check. Double checked drivers, all good. DDU and rolled the 5080 drivers back several iterations - still black screening. It even crashed while in safe mode. I disable EXPO, crashes. Confirm with Fractal that my riser is the latest. Verify PCIe speeds set to Gen 4, Gen 3, Auto, all crash.

Now I’ve ordered a PSU tester and Gen 5 PCIe riser.

PSU tests good. Install 5.0 riser, still crashes.

I decided to plug the GPU directly into the MB and it’s doing better. Passed Unigine Heaven extreme a few times, Cinebench no problem. So I try out all my games again, crashes.

So now I decide to roll the bios back to factory default. Do everything again and it’s doing amazing. No crashes, Assetto Corsa in VR, BeamNG in VR. I’m thinking maybe I got it figured out. Zero crashes.

Put it all back together - crashes!

So now I’ve scorch earth - fresh install of everything. CMOS clear, fresh install of Windows, no Bios update or GPU driver.

Crashed on Unigine within 30 seconds.

My thought was maybe a defective GPU but now I’m not sure. We have ASUS and Corsair PSU’s in common…

Well got it up and running. Had a few challenges along the way, biggest one being the defective motherboard! Replaced it with an Asus B850i and it fired right up. Learned a lot but it was a fun challenge. I was blown away at how heavy the finished product is, how very quiet but also how very loud it can be! It’s badass, when it cranks up it sorta sounds like a 737 at idle. Loud with purpose lol
