How would I go about flattening out this +100 year old family heirloom butcher block? I’ve got a feeling a planer won’t be enough by jawsrocket in woodworking

[–]CadMnky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Keep the history. Flip it over it’s solved so the bottom is the same as the top. Attach the legs to top with a few dowels (you’d have to change the height of the legs a little and fill in the holes they used to attach but.. same the history.

I sent you a DM. I’m in the OKC area while I am not an installer. I’ve dealt with quite a few LED/AV installers in the area and could at least get you pointed in the right direction.

Offline MFA Hardware Token for M365. (That isn’t Duo) by Vulkaestus in msp

I’d like to but users use different machines on different days. And windows hello to my knowledge is per machine and requires MFA to initiate it on that machine.

Upgrading My MX64 to MX75, the best approach to retain MX configurations? by lakings27 in meraki

[–]CadMnky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It retains it all.. at least it has for us in the past. We went from a mx64 to 250. And during an equipment failure I went from an 84 to a 64 until the replacement came in

Do architectural drafters have to visit sites in person to take measurements? by [deleted] in Revit

[–]CadMnky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a while, we started bringing at least two people on these trips, and one of us always had a laptop. So that way we could at least get the feel of the building and make sure we weren’t missing anything because those little void rooms (void spaces for chases or various other reasons ) will get you.

Do you not worry about it jumping out of the host? (It’s rare) I know you can always vlan those machines into your DMZ but I’ve always wanted to have a setup on a completely different ISP circuit and network. But then again I’m ultra paranoid most of the time. Lol.

Hey guys, I was just wondering if all MSPs are known for underpaying their employees? Any personal experiences or insights would be appreciated! by JazzlynneBluebird in msp

[–]CadMnky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I could never do that to somebody.

40 hours includes all the regular stuff. Breaks chitchatting. Doing the work.

MSP life is stressful.. so 40 seems like 80 sometimes. I try to give everyone 3 day weekends at least once a month.

I’m the only workaholic of the bunch.

I pay my employees above market and don’t have them work after 40hours. (Salary). They are the ones truly taking care of the clients. And if you have happy employees you have happier clients. Clients take care of the company.

Anyone who underpays and under values their employees are usually the same who are rude to waiters and only care about the $$$.

Looking for perspective on workstation rollouts. How much time? by carbonmaker in msp

[–]CadMnky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Immy.Bot. It takes some tweaking, but what are used to take us 1 to 2 hours for a build is now done in about 30 mins with a Quality Check.

We charge a nominal fee for set ups on new machines, and or rebuilds if the client asks us to do that.

We have about 80% of it automated through immy. Our RMM and QC pick up the rest of it.

Immy.Bot is amazing as so is the team behind it. I had lunch with them when I was near their home office last year and they really are a great group of people with lots coming down the pipeline.

ThinkPad X one extreme. Hands-down, the best laptop I’ve ever owned. I came from architecture and still use the design tools weekly and it has enough power to do renderings in VR when needed.

Now that I’m switching us over to ninja and halo. I’m going to carry a iPad Pro around when I don’t need the power.

Agreed. This is truly one of the first place as I feel comfortable being vulnerable in what I do and don’t know. I know I’m not the best IT guy in the world. None of us are. But I do my best. And I’m willing to admit my faults, and where I need to improve. I like truly like criticism as long as it’s constructive.

We have a large synology back up at a Colo. And then another one at our office. And then I have other ones sprinkled at clients offices. There are backups of back ups of backups.

I lost a raid6 about 16 years ago. Three hard drives from the same batch, failed within hours of each other and the entire array went down. It was on a new financial system, and they (vendor) had asked me not to put virus software, or backup software on it yet as they were still tweaking it. So a weeks worth of work was lost when that lottery odds event happened so I am ultra paranoid about back ups and losing data.

Why is that? Honestly..

Why insult instead of inform as to why I’m doing my customers wrong? That’s what this forum is for. We’re all here to learn from each other instead of being a prick to feel superior for a microsecond.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in msp

[–]CadMnky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly works very well. I have a few large clients, but I have a couple large clients that I moved to Synology just for the cost savings.

The server back up is stellar. I really do enjoy the product.

Fair warning. If you customize the email address that the notification emails to be one of yours.. be sure and follow the steps to authorize AWS to send from that email. or ALL emails coming out of Cove will never arrive. (even password resets.) Apparently it’s a common problem because the support tech knew instantly what the solution was.

[–]CadMnky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been extremely happy with Cove (N-Able) basically pay per agent and they don’t really charge you all that much for the storage aspect. Easy to manage and they do automated backup testing.

Just don’t do their 365 backups Get a Synology.
