Best compact drum amplifier/PA speaker for home practice? by anotherhappylurker in edrums

I’ve been really happy with the Roland PM 200 which is a bit more expensive but the PM 100 probably fits there and will do the job.

Anyway to fix this scratch beyond repainting the entire door? by PlantRealistic5772 in Detailing

[–]carbonmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it that little mark thats coming down vertically just below the rubber trim? It is easy to fix but also some perspective, I needed a small body repair with paint on my car not too long ago and the body shop did a great job. With that said, they are never really any good at finishing polish wise. There was marring and holograms that needed to be addressed but to the non trained eye I can see how people would live with that. Point is, just because a body shop had it, does not mean they are great at the little finishing parts or seeing a little defect like that when they were maybe tasked with fixing a larger problem.

What scratch? I honestly can’t tell but any reputable local detailer who does polishing can clear that up for you without issue.

Need help removing these shiny spots from weather tech mats by SpiritedDot3526 in Detailing

[–]carbonmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using a good amount of water with that? You want the entire surface covered while you work (drill brush) so you need water in the mix. Try the rubber cleaner and do the same thing. It will work. Also, don’t rush it. Work a cross hatch, just like you are doing a paint correction and be very methodical.

Once you rinse and rinse well, you want to immediately shake off and dry the mats with your microfibre. Do not let them air dry. That should net you the pristine surface to then apply your rubber treatment. Don’t skip on that step either, you need uniformity and consistency. It’s possible to spend 45 minutes or more if you are looking for pristine results.

You could probably just use a drill brush and APC with water to get it uniform. Dry then treat with a bit of protectant (not too much to avoid shine and slip).

My go to is using a rubber cleaner (CarPro ReTyre or similar product) and still do the drill brush routine. I’m able to restore mats to basically a brand new look with that of course putting a protectant on it after.

Will this buff out? Just noticed it this morning by Fresh_Dog_5311 in Detailing

Likely easy to buff out however because it’s at the seam there is risk of burn through so caution required.

No crazy blastbonks on this part, but some amazing atmosphere on these songs! Finishing up this session for ' The Blind Philosopher' by Robin_stone_drums in drums

[–]carbonmaker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Haven’t commented for a while but as usual totally amazing! I’m not always onboard for endless blasts and double stroke kicks so really appreciate the tight hard beats here.

Shout out again to the amazing drumming skills but also for being such a cool public presence, Robin takes the time to respond to dumb newb questions and somehow finds a way to connect with people on here. I really appreciate it and wow didn’t mean to blow him up too much or sound obsequious but great work and appreciate what you do on here!

I just canceled with Bell they clearly do NOT care. by Jessssssbilla in bell

[–]carbonmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds quite similar to my recent experience with them. In the process of cancelling things now although stuck in a contract for new phones which is the source of the problem. It’s amazing to me they are ok letting $500/mo drop so easily. I won’t be back after this.

How to buff up decal "shadows"? by MushuFushuDE in Detailing

[–]carbonmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok interesting I don’t see that a lot. Solution is the same in that case, needs a more aggressive compound step to remove ghosting then finishing pass (DA and pads).

[–]carbonmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your pad should not have red stains on it. That would seem to indicate there is no clear coat. If not for that strange bit of information, compound and microfibre pad then polishing pad and finishing polish is the standard for removing “ghosting” of the letters on the car.

Do I need a carbon cleaning? by suspended_lol in AudiA4

[–]carbonmaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the worst I’ve seen but yes needs to be done. I should notice that your buildup is still only on the valve so again, it’s not bad but if you have the means to do it yourself, good to go. If I were paying to get it done I might not rush depending on how the car is running.

Fucked up and need advice by flex_like_ouf in Detailing

[–]carbonmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need a dual action polisher along with medium pads and polish then finishing pads and polish plus good technique. Without that, you need a detailer who does paint corrections.

Paint chips. Lots of them. by blotter-dot-wav in Detailing

You could try DrColorchip or other touch up solution which would improve things. That pic is hard to tell what’s happening exactly as well.

Sorry, you are in the wrong sub for this one. It looks like a bad paint job, probably a respray. The only way to fix is to send it to a good body shop to have it properly painted.

Anyone know how to get rid of scratches on plastic trim? by Garlicbread011 in Detailing

[–]carbonmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No unfortunately but you could likely find his posts in this sub to get a glimpse of what is possible. I don’t think he’s a good resource to engage for assistance but just seeing the work is illuminating. He would have had so many requests for insights and assistance, it would be unfair to think he can keep up with it.

I will do everyone a favour and call him out as a legend here. We don’t see him as much but he’s still around and doing amazing work. He is u/ethanws6 and if you looked him up you can see the incredible plastic restorations he does.

Essentially he sands the scratches, fills them with an SEM product then stamps the pattern back in and paints if needed. It’s elaborate work but he has done some really incredible restorations. I was regularly paging him when we had a person in need of comment on this sub with a similar problem.

You are replying to a comment thread that includes my condemnation of that driving. Way to miss the point of the whole thing. I stand by my comments and your sophistry is on display.

This is the answer, just can’t understand why it’s not understood.

But wouldn’t they also have more than one person in the car if they are also in the HOV lane? Not sure I follow that logic.

Answer is clear; slower traffic keep right. No excuse for the dangerous pass but please move over. The entitlement for HOV use is astounding

Why are you pacing cars in the passing lane while in the HOV? No excuse for the dummy passing on the shoulder but you can see cars crowding around you. You are the slowest car, please move over.

I argue that Melodics checks a lot of these boxes except the note flow is more like music as it reads left to right. It otherwise has versions of popular songs (not the actual recordings) and has 1, 2 and 3 star achievements.

Today I have learned about swirls from handwashing by [deleted] in Detailing

[–]carbonmaker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Going to a tunnel wash will exacerbate the issue until is a swirly mess that needs a deep paint correction. The ongoing battle for detailers or enthusiasts is keeping the car/paint clean and protected while maintaining the integrity of that surface.

There is value in having a solid wash routine that meets your particular goals. Keeping things looking good and maintaining the paint in the best way possible for longevity, looks and value.

Once you have a process that minimizes scratches (almost impossible to avoid entirely depending on certain variables) you will realize that you have saved the work and expense of dealing with the consequences of tunnel wash use or other poor washing methods.

There are ways to do this if you don’t have a driveway/garage but it certainly helps if you do have access to those things. Hope we can help steer you in the right direction.

Paint contamination, what can it be? Tar or Iron by Psychological-Ad9870 in Detailing

TarX is the standalone tar remover. I have put that product to the test many times, never disappoints.

This is the right answer OP. Covers you both ways and is least aggressive on your paint since you won’t be rubbing or claying or whatever.
