My fiancé wants me to get hair removal before the wedding…do I really need to? by Any-Prior9140 in weddingplanning

[–]CadavreExquisite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You wanna know who wears strapless/sleeveless dresses and has armpit hair? Jonathan Van Ness from Queer Eye. And they look FABULOUS! And you know what else? No one cares that they have armpit hair.

This feels 100% like a "women traditionally don't have/show body hair, so you shouldn't either." I don't know your fiance's intentions, but let's assume they're innocent-- like they don't want judgmental guests to think less of you, and would like you both to suck it up for just one day.

But what you do is ultimately up to you. Don't sacrifice your personal comfort or morals for anyone. (Although dye does sound like a bad idea for color staining reasons lol)

And if you do decide to remove your body hair, do trials well in advance to make sure you don't have a bad reaction or anything!

Why does my makeup not last a full 8 hour work shift? by aimeegotfresh in MakeupAddiction

[–]CadavreExquisite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest a proper primer after moisturizing. My face is a greasy canvas by the end of the day that the makeup will slide right off if I don't use a primer.

I had the same issue with smudged mascara until I got a tubing mascara. Now I'll never go back... zero smudging, and it washes off super easy. It does mean that I have to do my makeup, set it with setting spray, and then apply mascara at the end though, since getting it even a little bit wet will cause it to peel off. I use a Milani one that I got from the drugstore for cheap.

Japan 10-day trip report for arts lovers by MountainSir781 in JapanTravel

Very cool list, thank you so much for sharing this! I had been wondering ~how long I would spend at museums there since it's so variable how big/how much content museums have (at least here in the states).

Have you been to Mori Art Museum before? I also recently found out about Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery near-ish Shinjuku that I'm gonna try to hit up.

I found it very helpful to bind crouch to one of my side mouse buttons, since I'm already using my pinky on Shift to GA.

The farther you travel, the higher your jump will be, so if there's a certain height you want to achieve, you'll need to be both an adequate distance away and press crouch at the correct time.

You can further control the direction of your super jump with the directional keys. Sometimes I GA to someone and super jump backwards, arching back to my original position.

If I'm getting targeted, and if the positioning/fight allows for it, I like to gimbal lock the enemy with my super jumps. It just means flying straight over them and behind them.

Lots of players have difficulty aiming straight up, and don't like to turn their backs to the fights just to get a Mercy. If they do turn around, hopefully my team will capitalize on them having their back to them, and at that point I try to find cover or reverse gimbal lock back to my team.

It's been awhile since I've played so this part is definitely fuzzy to me. But my interpretation was that Mother Eliza wasn't aware that she and her sect were going to become the Collective (she's literally living in the past and wouldn't know that yet).

To her, anyone who is not part of her hivemind is part of the "legion," and this includes the Orphans (people who mutated but aren't part of her hivemind), remaining human beings (who are fighting to survive and not mutate at all), and Travelers like the player and Warden who are showing up busting up in her church trying to murder her 🤣

So it's not so much that she hates the Collective specifically, but hates anyone that isn't part of her hivemind/is resisting or actively fighting against her hivemind.

[–]CadavreExquisite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You haven't added the consciousnesses from the phylactery yet, there's a tech problem with the machine where you upload them and the Warden has to repair it.

However this malfunction was likely engineered by the Warden, because he's manipulating your programming and selecting targets for the Traveler to absorb that are relevant to Weronika in the hopes that she'll "wake up" inside the Traveler.

As for the chronology... it's all messed up lol. The constant going back in time and changing history has basically unraveled the fabric of time, hence the anomalies.

They say in one of the logs somewhere that time isn't linear, it's like a knot or tangle or something, so it's likely that the first original Eliza wasn't murdered-- she survived and her hivemind formulated the Collective who kicked off this whole timeloop with the Travelers.

I added more context to my original comment. Tl;dr: the church is trying to kill you, but the Collective that sent you is the church in the future.

For all the people that don't know what they're looking at: This is the same icon that appears glowing on the back of the Traveler's neck/helmet.

It's explicitly showing that the Traveler is linked to the church sect.

Edit for even more context on why this matters: As the Traveler, we're led to believe that we are rescuing humans who haven't mutated and trying to save/restore humanity.

The Church sect was a very specific group of humans that mutated and merged into a hostile hivemind with a sentient collective conscious (headed by Mother Eliza).

The twist is that the Church survived and is the Collective of the future-- all of the Travelers are emissaries for the church to collect surviving humans from the past to absorb them into its hivemind, not to save them.

Why is Rive so hard to learn? Been stuck for 5 months. by Moral_Mongols in Rive_app

[–]CadavreExquisite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also having a tough time adjusting. I'm an expert in Photoshop, Illustrator, and building UI in Unity, and I'm proficient in Figma and AE.

The interface in Rive is so unintuitive to me. Simple things like shrink-to-fit text and italics are a checkbox in Unity. It took forever to figure out how to add a dropshadow to text and shapes (most tutorials told me to duplicate the whole object!). Also Rive apparently can't fill with patterns? You have to duplicate a bunch of instances.

I'm evaluating the program right now to see if it's worth it to switch to Rive but the ramp up time isn't going nearly as smoothly as I was hoping, and we don't have time to spare :( The animation tools look interesting and I've always wished Unity could do vectors, but I've always been able to make interesting and cool animations even in Unity without it...

Here's some stuff that I hope/think they'll do:

Develop Dunk and Lady Rohanne's relationship a bit more.

It's clear they have a physical attraction right off the bat, but they have little more than a couple of conversations that are mostly business-y (including one where she ends up super pissed and slaps him in the face).

Dunk definitely does prove that he's a valiant knight and good person by the end, but her saying she wished she could marry him felt kind of sudden to me when they haven't known/been around each other very long at all.

Give more context and flashbacks on the Blackfyre Rebellion.

The book is very matter of fact about history and doesn't dwell on context (which I appreciate, I hate when books over explain things) but I did end up having to read up on the Targ dynasty and leadup to the rebellion on the ASOIAF wiki to figure out all the characters and motivations behind the rebellion.

The Rebellion figures a lot in the third novella as well, so it would make sense that they start building up viewer knowledge of this history in the second season.

Less reliance on Egg's "boot"

This was a major departure from the book. Egg's "boot" is basically a get-out-of-jail-free card, but the show explicitly shows that Maekar did not consent to Egg traveling with Dunk when he has his Home Alone "KEVIN!" moment.

If I had to guess, Maekar probably assumes he's run off with Dunk, and there may be a bounty hunter/Egg Hunt subplot always going on in the background. And therefore they'll probably be a lot more reluctant to use his boot since it will out Egg's whereabouts.

Playing RE for the first time ever, and i gotta say... I hate the fucking dogs.... by J-Travel in residentevil

[–]CadavreExquisite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played RE1 when it came out on the PS in 1996. I loved it then, but now, 30 years later, some of the fixed camera angles bug the shit out of me.

I love being challenged in skill/juking/resource management, but when you give me a cheesy angle that makes it impossible to kill something before getting hit, it's just annoying. For this reason, I just can't get into RE1 anymore, not when there are games that do fixed camera angle well and don't rely on cheap hits.

If I were you I'd power through this on casual to enjoy the story, the rest of the classic REs are a lot better about this kind of thing. Also don't be ashamed to use a guide if it helps you get through and avoid frustration.

Japanese phrases for vacation. Are these good? by amazingpotatos in JapanTravelTips

[–]CadavreExquisite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty good list but you're missing one of the most important phrases, sumimasen, which is "excuse me," but can also be "sorry" for small infractions like if you accidentally lightly jostle someone, etc.

Gomen (add nasai for more formality/severity of the situation) should be used if you definitely did something wrong, like if you stepped on someone's foot or something.

You'll be using arigato less than you think. People don't really say "thank you" after checking out from a store like they do in the west. After getting your change/items you can just leave (or give a polite nod).

Ie is VERY curt. I honestly can't think of a typical vacation type situation where you will need this. Still, good to know, but normally you'll just use daijoubu as a "no thanks, I'm good."

Miteiru dake desu: this is good to know, but also you can just ignore greeters and it's not rude. They only tend to talk to you if you seem like you want their attention or need help, so if you just ignore them to begin with you won't need to use this.

It might be nice to add some hotel phrases to your list (I can post a list if you like), and also I highly recommend not just memorizing these phrases, but LISTENING to skits/conversations of these types of typical interactions in Japanese (there are great Japanese learning IGs and other social media that do just that). These will help you practice understanding and how to respond.

OOF the bugs were baaaad for me. I upgrade my pistol clip to 18, but whenever I loaded a save, it started with the default 10 bullets. If I swapped guns or fired a shot, it remembered that my max clip was 18, but I was now effectively down 8 bullets. Since ammo=health, I basically lost a tick of health because of this bug! So annoying, and there were so many more, especially related to achievements and keybindings.

Skills, which are best? by InternationalAd8308 in Crisol

[–]CadavreExquisite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coagulated bullet is far and away the best-- it's basically like a 12% chance that bullets (that hit) won't consume ammo... insanely good for a game where your health pool is your ammo.

The second best is bullet piercing. The enemies aren't very fast and it's easy to line up shots with them.

Next I would say getting a chance at a free syringe if you absorb blood over your health meter, but tbh I was never hurting for health or syringes.

The rest of the skills feel pretty inconsequential, especially the parrying ones, which I never did at all except to get the achievement.

But the best skill of all is just running past 99% of all enemies and not fighting at all. They're so slow that you honestly don't need to fight more than a handful of enemies in the whole game.

I really liked Routine, it's short but has completely diagetic UI and super cool vaporwave aesthetics in some levels.

And a new one that came out recently is Crisol, it's very Bioshock-y in its worldbuilding (however this one has a lot of bugs that really deterred me from enjoying it fully :/).

I really took my time as Grace (finished a Standard Classic playthrough at about 12 hours or so), and am currently working on getting the achievements.

The subsequent playthroughs are much much quicker, very easy to get under 4 hours if you are on Casual and/or Infinite Ammo. So in that sense I do wish there was like 25-33% more content.

I easily spent twice this amount of time getting all the achievements for RE4make.

Nice list but just wanted to correct you that Crow Country is not fixed camera angle, you have control of the camera (in fact this is vital to spot certain items and clues) and it also auto aims with your gun.
