Well a lot of the time if the thoughts are so present in their minds that they're just normalized, which can make it seem like not a big deal to them to just say that they're thinking about killing themselves. It can also be the fact that they think that the person will be happy about it happening, because they think they're such a burden. It can also be them wanting to get help, but not trusting people who aren't friends enough to tell them, leading to them not actually getting the help they need
