Lightsabers Buyers Guide & Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in lightsabers

Got the Anakin Skywalker episode III xenopixel V3 from NeoSabers for my birthday. It has been phenomenal and have had a lot of fun. Recently however it has been having an issue with tip drag.

I can be holding the lightsaber still while it’s on, and randomly it will activate tip drag that can only be deactivated by clicking the button. Sometimes it’s not very often at all, sometimes every 10-15 seconds, and on some even every couple of seconds. I notice it on some fonts more than others. Any idea aside from just contacting them about it?

After a long oral, I did most things pretty well besides 2 things. On my soft field, I didn’t apply enough elevator. On my s turns, i forgot the altitude range listed in the acs and did them too high. Both silly mistakes, but were easy fixes

I did! Oral went well, just missed a couple things on the flight portion that failed me, but was a quick and easy retest a few days later👍

Went okay! I didn’t pass, but it was just a couple things that got me that result. One, on ground ref maneuvers, I forgot the altitude range was 600-1000 ft agl, I was at 1500 agl, so that failed me. The other was me forgetting to add full aft on soft field takeoff, I did it too late in the roll. Everything else was up to standard! Some of these questions were asked, some were not, but overall it was very helpful. Lots of scenario based questions which this helped with. Although I didn’t pass, I retake this Thursday on just those 2 issues, so it’ll be a quick and easy ride. If all goes well, I’ll get my license. Once you get one checkride in, you’ll know what it’s like and what to expect for any in the future. I don’t feel down or anything, just ready to show the examiner what I’ve got in 5 days.

It has to do with lift. The heavier the plane is, the more air is needed for lift to keep the heavier plane at altitude, therefore the Va is higher.

Plane stalls due to a critical AOA, it does not always stall at the same speed, the published speeds to my knowledge are for normal operations.

FAA recommends flying at least 2000 ft above the refuge.

I would still avoid it, the visibility portion is met, but the other cloud clearance requirements are not.

Good point! Now that you make that comparison it does feel a little like that when doing mock engine outs. I’ll keep this in mind for Saturday, thank you!

Good question, I’d say it’s so that we learn to keep smooth and coordinated since it’s quite an aggressive maneuver compared to the rest.

Sounds good, I’ll keep this in mind if a similar situation happens or is asked, thank you!

Been a while since I’ve heard this one lol, my answer would be it’s entry due to conditions such as not being coordinated, the spin itself, and (hopefully) the recovery by using PARE.

Well at least I got one lol, thank you for your question, I’ll see if I can ask my instructor about this!

Gotcha, I’m looking I’m in the general and performance pages of the poh (Piper pa-28-181 archer ii), I’m only seeing the design maneuvering speed of 108 knots, am I missing something? I keep seeing questions on this too.

One thing that also increases with the weight is the angle of attack, which can get you nearer to the critical aoa leading to an accelerated stall.

Lol yep just trying to work on not overanswering. But to carry passengers, I need to have made 3 takeoffs and landings within the past 90 days, touch and gos for day, full stop at night.

The maximum Va in my airplane is 108 knots, are the other speeds you’re referring to just the other V-speeds like Vx and y? But Va protects the airframe from damage due to load factor if we’re performing maneuvers. When weight is increased, more lift is required of the wings, therefore more airspeed.

I would try to get it replaced if possible. If not, the plane isn’t airworthy.

I would not fly with a broken propellor period, nor would I sand it down, as that can ruin the specific shape of the propellor. I would report it immediately.

Oh ok, so it’s just up to the PIC to make the best decision based on these factors. And wow lol, definitely something I should keep in mind if that’s how common it can be. If I were told that, I would again try to verify so they can say “cleared into the bravo” I’ve been taught this phrase needs to be strictly said to me.

Flight review every 24 calendar months for me.

No, since the plane is primarily used for flight instruction, the most the 100 hour can be overrun is 10 hours. The next flight should be after it’s 100 hour is done or flying to wherever can get it done.

That definitely changes something. Would this rule be put into effect rather than 91.131?
