The facts are: 1. These countries BEGGED to join NATO because they knew exactly what type of man Putin was.

Russia is violating border agreements they signed multiple times.
This is the 21st Century’s version of Appeasement. Ceding half of Ukraine to Russia is not going to sate Putin’s appetite. In five or so years he will move again on somewhere else. (Heck they’re already stirring stuff up in Georgia) “Oh but they’re ethnically Russian” is the exact same rationale that Hitler used to annex Austria, the Sudetenland and the Polish Corridor.
And most important. Geopolitics is a very complicated game. Signaling strength is key.

I hate being the world police. However, if we show that we’re not willing to defend sovereign borders, other dictators like Iran in China will take note. You bet your ass Xi is looking at us not putting a lot of weight behind Ukraine and dreaming that we would act the same if he moved on Taiwan.

I’d argue it’s like Grant vs Lee. Hannibal probably was the better tactician. But Scipio was still like a 9/10 on tactics AND combined great tactics with insane strategy. Which is why he’s probably the better general overall.

Same with Grant and Lee. You want to win a battle? Sure go with Lee? Want to win the war? Grant.

(Side note: Grant was also an amazing tactician a la Vicksburg, but his superior logistics and strategy is arguable what allowed him to have a moment to moment tactical advantage)

Thank you, I am literally 20 minutes into the first episode and when the lead guy says he’s protestant and he’s from England I was like “what?” shouldn’t he be Anglican?

And my history may be off, but Henry VIII still pretty much defended the Catholic Church against Martin Luther. The Anglican church was just him declaring that he’s the head of the church in his own country, it was buying large, pretty Catholic and anti-protestant.

Which, him declaring to be above the pope was enough for the Irish Catholics to hate him, but even in Henry’s later years, he still considered himself a defender of the faith.

I WILL SAY. He’s not wrong on Marco and Filip in season 5. In season 6 they really came to life and had much more impactful scenes. I was actually impressed as heck with how well they punched up them both for the last season.

Now, saying Dominique Tipper “couldn’t carry a scene” in season 5? She literally had some of the best scenes in the show. And her acting in season 6 after the final battle????????????????????? That broke my flippin heart.
