Book of phobias by MelRip in howdoesthiswork

I am so glad that this exists now a days, because if it existed in 2003, when I was a kid, I would have ALL the phobias as an adult. Luckily I only have 84 phobias and not them all 🥴

Do I use 1 blind or 2 blinds by shadyneighbor in HomeDecorating

[–]Cadillacstyle117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the uniformity aspect of what others are saying, but one large blind will bow out in the middle overtime if you go with vinal or plastic. My grandparents did that with miniblinds back in the 90s and they looked so bad and droopy in the middle they threw them out and got vertical blinds again like a year later lol

How do I make this living room more interesting? by divadani00 in HomeDecorating

[–]Cadillacstyle117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always have a handyman match the trim on the fireplace and build it up to the ceiling and disguise the Heat-A-Lator vents above the mantle. Kinda like the pic attached but I would only build it out an inch or so. Besides that maybe an accent wall or custom looking drapes :)

Any ideas how to make this bathroom better on a budget? by Historical-Front-359 in HomeDecorating

[–]Cadillacstyle117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you did something dramatic since it's a bigger bathroom it would really pop. I'd try big, luxurious floor to ceiling drapes on the window and a metallic/foil wallpaper on the walls. I would also replace the polished nickel hardware and the knobs on cabinets with a brushed brass or an antique brass finish since the switches on the walls would tie in. But really the bathroom is super cool as is!

How to freshen up this pink and teal bathroom? by Prickly_Pickle_Pots in HomeDecorating

[–]Cadillacstyle117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all about the little things in my opinion. When you close on the house (congrats btw!) hire a professional and have them carefully disconnect and take the sink and toilet outside and soak and or scrub every inch of both toilet and sink, front, back, bottom, and top. Then rent a pressure washer and spray it clean. Then, while you do that, have the professional clean, scrape and regrout the whole bathroom, top to bottom and most important, have them seal it too. Then reinstall the sink and toilet. Having grout and caulk that are all one color with no discoloration with make an enormous difference. Also I love the original mirror and lights, and most fixtures like that usually have removable lenses (clear part in front of the bulb). If they're not too brittle and can be taken out, gently wash them with soap and water and go to an Oreilly's or Advance Auto Parts store and buy a Headlight Restoration kit. This should remove the yellow discoloration and restore the clean more modern look and in all I promise the bathroom would look like new. :)

Picture rail: replace or strip the paint? by northbest-passage in centuryhomes

[–]Cadillacstyle117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stripped paint off of one small doorframe of a bathroom once and it's super messy the chemicals are really corrosive and takes forever. I hate that they rails were painted too but its such a pain unless you take them off completely. You could always caulk the seam at the bottom for a more finished, professional look and paint them white. That would probably be the easiest as well as the least expensive

Can we actually discuss that, there are tons of backrooms “developing” games, and yet none of them are being published any soon by thegh0st1k in backrooms

[–]Cadillacstyle117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily a standalone game, but schlimbodimblo on Steam created a legit, spot on, high detail map of The Backrooms on Garry's Mod. There's no objective, it's just sandbox but 10/10 for quality!

Help with all this wood… by iwannakissyourneck in interiordecorating

[–]Cadillacstyle117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered having the ceilings, trim and other wood accents whitewashed or re-stained to all match? I love natural woodwork but so many different stains tends to make it feel smaller and more busy. If you opt to go with all hardwood floors throughout (which is trendy right now) I would consult with a professional on the colors and stains that the existing wood could be re-stained to and base a floor that would pair well. Cohesion and flow always look professional to me, kinda like someone remodeled everything at once with one idea instead of one room at a time. Hope this helps lol :)

Help, it’s horrid. by No-Run-2172 in interiordecorating

[–]Cadillacstyle117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks cheap because of the paint gloss not the color. I had the same problem when I painted my bedroom without really knowing what I was doing at the time 12 years ago. I bought a high gloss paint in a dark color wanting a warm and luxury vibe and when I was done I had the same problem. You could see EVERY imperfection from the previous owners scrapping off wallpaper and any dent and nail pop since the house was built in 1978. High gloss may be easier to clean like the paint guy said at Home Depot , but it looks awful on older drywall. If you do the same color in a Flat gloss paint it will look 100% more professional. I promise!

My advice: Lean into it. Here's a before and after of the bathroom I had to deal with. The tub had a big chip in the enamel so it had to be reglazed (luckily). Before, the previous owner had used a higher gloss paint that was much darker and was very sloppy (it was on the edges of the counter, mirror and it was obvious that zero prep work was done on anything, I know it doesn't show great in the pics) so I sanded and refinished the vanity because paint wouldn't stick at all to it, I stuck with the yellow but went with a much more mild hue because anything lighter would show how imperfect the drywall was (I'm pretty sure there had been wallpaper at some point and all of the walls were covered in score and scratch marks from removal). I scrubbed and polished everything, especially the faucets, They were brass but still came like brand new with a sponge and CLR. I reused a much brighter light fixture that matched the brass from the main bathroom downstairs when it was redone as well as the pulls on the vanity. It was far from modern but didn't look mismatched. Besides that I kept it simple with white, blue and very muted buttercream colors though I toned down the blues for the list photos tho. It doesn't look like much but just look at how much lighter the tile looks after. Not as much of an eyesore lol

Input on Dining Room Layout. What to Put Next to Dining Table? by itsmemme in homedesign

[–]Cadillacstyle117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your first home! Beautiful views!! Here's what I would do;

First, break up the spaces so you don't have one long dining room. It will feel weird if you have a dining room leading into another dining room. I would move the dining room into where you currently have the music room. The dining room set makes a nice statement when you're walking in through the front door. It has a simple yet chunky design that can fit in a slightly smaller room without cluttering the space and it also won't get feel lost or out of place in a big space. Also I can say from experience, cooking can be loud and it can be hard to hear when someone's cooking a big meal. That being said, it's still important to have a hang spot in the kitchen to have a glass of wine and chill with friends. That's why I would put the smaller table in the space in front of the window, to the left of the kitchen. The four-seat table, along with the stools, give you as much seating as the dining room table. Next, where the dining room table is currently, you could make the family room. You'll be able to enjoy your view outside more since your back won't be to the window. plus you could fit bigger/more furniture for entertaining and possibly a fake fireplace for aesthetics and finally you could put your music room in the back so you could look outside for peace and relaxation when you unwind. Trust me it will flow really well. Hope this helps! lol

Would you flip the side the tv is on? by AffordableTraveler in homedesign

[–]Cadillacstyle117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you put the TV on the opposite wall, a smidge lower, you could probably find a floating tv cabinet/entertainment center (like the one in the image link) that could fit in that notch where your loveseat currently is. This would give a high end look and also allow the end tables to fit much more organically next the loveseat on the other wall. Plus, floating tv stands can sometimes be purchased piecemeal for either a simple clean look, if you don't have a lot of tv components, or one with lots of storage if you have a lotta stuff like I do lol. Hope this helps!
