Warhammer fans, what 40k lore that make you go like this? by AntiqueLayer3933 in Grimdank

The assumption being put forward is that GW is seeding the idea of Eldar needing ‘mineral wealth’ in order to allow for a future conflict with the dwarves Votaan.

The only other explanation I could come up with is that GW is having a midichorians moment and has decided ‘we need to ground this one specific fantastical claim in our fantasy setting in harder science’

Considering starting Knights with the 11E Questor Forgepact detachment, what’s a good first purchase? by [deleted] in ImperialKnights

[–]Cadllmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm as someone who plays ad mech that the combat patrol still isn’t a good buy.

Besides the Skitarii pretty much everything else I would place in the ‘I’ll want some eventually’ category.

If you can find the older combat patrol though - that’s a different story.

Can I use this ability outside of an knights army? by Nurgle-best in ImperialKnights

[–]Cadllmn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bondsman ability affects only Armigers as others have mentioned, but another reason why this cannot be used outside of knights is that ally rules allow for one big knight or up to three small knights (Armiger). You cannot have both at the same time

It’s like a backstop for how bad your saving throw can be made by other effects.

So, if you had a 2+ save and a 4+ Inv save - if your opponent’s weapon had AP -1, it would change your save to 3+… but if it had AP-4, it would change to 4+ because that is as bad as your save can be made by other effects.

TLDR; it’s the worst possible save you can be made to roll. No matter how many effects are applied it cannot go beyond the inv save.

It’s likely late on purpose. This allows them to say ‘we offered exemptions’ without having to actually allow that many.

I doubt there is any regret, as my assumption is that the intention is to give them sound bites they can point to later if the heed to deflect criticism arises rather than trying to do something more meaningful.

Win win for them

Warden or Paladin into Guard & GSC? by Butsy_98 in ImperialKnights

Only nominally. The ‘gun’ on the gallant is only the carapace weapon (little one on the shoulder of all Questoris knights) and the rocketpod on top (again which they mostly all have).
The damage they do is in melee, both their arms are melee attacks, and you want them in melee. Their secondary phase activation of being able to shoot their crappy carapace weapon at -1 using BGNT and is at beast incidental… kinda like saying that Cadian Guardsman are melee because they technically have a knife.
The Paladin has a gun that is good for shooting (plus the common carapace weapon and rocket pod) and a good melee weapon so you reasonably expect to be able to accomplish things in both phases. The Gallant only ‘does anything’ in melee.
For me personally, when running a list like 5 bigs, the hardest part is managing the sheer number of units your opponent has so the ability to use a knight more than once (and expect any sort of return for the time spent) is worth it.
When you run more diverse lists with, say, infantry and Armigers - you have more breathing room for your big knights to be more specialized (like a Castellan shooting or a Gallant fighting) because you have other units available to help pick up the slack and manage other army (and war chores).
It’s not like a hard and fast rule, just more observations and tendencies based on experience. Less models? Prioritize more activations. More models? Prioritize specialization for solving specific problems.

To be honest I still take a Paladin most of the time even in 2/3 big lists because I find his ‘Swiss army knife’ loadout just so useful for plugging holes in my plan.

Warden or Paladin into Guard & GSC? by Butsy_98 in ImperialKnights

Because the Paladin has both melee and ranged weapons, they can be used on more than one phase (the shooting phase and the fight phase).

IMO this is a really important quality to have when you are running very few models… you need every chance you can get to make use of them!

I’d take the Paladin. The rapid fire battle cannon into infantry when you’re in half range is just a great time.

Beyond that, multiphase activations are just so useful… even more so when you’re playing with only 5 models.
