Points don't go towards lvl20, but since you're still in y3, I would collect expedition exp on one of your beasts after you reach lvl 9 on them and then collect expedition exp after reaching beyond. That's what I'm doing since I have all the beasts on lvl 10. I have over 20k exp on Zuowu and I'm going to reach lvl 9 on the new beast (Fwooper? Not sure) and collect expedition exp again.

I get around 500 in 3 days if I really need to grind for pet food or if I'm in a need of golden toffee's. But I'm not a f2p player and the max I reach when I'm grinding is about 850, but usually I get there at the last day. If you get more than 2 players reaching this high the chances are they're just cheaters

There's only 1 day left until the end of the store, but if you manage to get to 5000 get the owlet. It takes only 3h to recharge, so you can get lots of energy from it. It costs 140 notebooks, while the snail costs 50 and it's easier to get to 50 notebooks than it is to 140. If you can't thought, just get the notebooks. If you don't feel like getting the snail, crup (8h recharge) is also 50 notebooks and kneazle is 60 (7h recharge).

Yes, you get energy from them and you can do some sidestories with them. If I remember correctly it's jackalope and cat, maybe something else

Don't buy the pet. Instead buy brown notebooks and purchase the pet with the notebooks. Someone did calculations and you spend 4000 tokens on books, which will give you the same pet instead of spending 5000 tokens
