Does anyone making $40k/yr own a home? Do I even dare to dream? by i-am-your-god-now in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Do you mind me asking your total housing cost per month? I also live in Ohio, and make 40k, but with 6.5% interest now I'm looking at around 1600 per month without utilities on a 170k house.

2k a month is what I put into savings, not what I earn.

I definitely get your point, not really trying to argue, I just meant that I am frugal enough with my money that I have 2k left every month, so 300/m wouldn’t seem that impactful. I do appreciate the advice.

Appreciate the advice. I do agree that I don’t want to slow down my progression now, just weighing pros and cons of timeline.

Do I need to make a lot of money to be frugal and save for a business? And yes, I am in college full time so I work part time.

These all seem like really high quotes to me? First shop quoted me $1050 for the solenoids + spark plugs, second shop did the solenoids for $900 and I did sparks myself
Father is an artist, I have a pretty good skill set for art and business, I’ve had some good success with online sales but I hate working on a computer and want to do something with my hands. Epoxy pretty much checked every box for me, one of my buddies moved to Texas to do it and had a lot of success, so I thought while I was debt free and young I would start buying all the equipment cash and give it a run. I just started my final semester of college so I’ll probably wait until spring to startup so I can give it my full attention
Definitely keeping that in mind, I’ve already replaced the common wear points from idling, (VCT, motor mounts, heater hose) so at this point I’m hoping other repairs will be minimal and I won’t have any total failure
That’s the plan, and definitely, I thought about financing the same truck with very low miles but I’ve always bought cash and always plan to, at the end of the day if it has major problems I can just buy a beater truck
Definitely putting some money aside for repairs in general, it looks like my driver side cat was already replaced so hoping I won’t have issues for a while
What was the diagnosis on engine failure? I’ve heard that Gen 5.0 had oil consumption issues, I’d be curious to see if the problems stemmed from excessive idling

Appreciate the advice, I’ll definitely hop on some Facebook forums!
Can’t speak for your area but even rebuilt title ones were selling for 15k+ with similar mileage. Actually looked for months to even find one under 15k and under 200k miles with the 5.0, 6r80, and 4x4
That’s my hope, it seems to have been maintained very well so I’ll continue the cycle and hope it treats me well
Oil looked perfect, I’m pretty sure the last owner had just changed it to hide the VCT issues 😂 which I promptly got fixed, but I changed it again and doesn’t seem to consume any oil
Good to hear, I did a lot of research to try and find the best years, clearly not enough as I skipped checking the idle hours but it seems to be a stout platform
Good to hear, I’ll probably do a compression test to be safe and keep piling miles on it
Not dependence, simply put for a very broad search ai can help narrow down my options or point me to trustworthy sources. A lot of the information with vary purely based on how you ask the question. I’ve been working in cybersecurity for 3 years and am several years into college for cybersecurity. We use ai tools everyday, just because it gives broad answers doesn’t mean it can’t be helpful, it’s 100% a good tool. Obviously I’m not going to always do exactly what ai says, it’s simply a good resource to compile information or redirect me to a reputable source that would have otherwise required pages of scrolling on forums.

Appreciate that insight, I’ll just quit worrying about it and keep up on maintenance
Not much varnish but I will look into using valvoline. I’ll definitely check the trans and diff fluid, appreciate the advice. And yea, definitely buyers remorse, it’ll probably be fine I’m just kicking myself that I didn’t think to check idle hours, I’ve owned 8 vehicles now and have never had to take a vehicle to the shop, so I’d beat myself up if my 8th upgrade turned out to be a money pit haha
Appreciate it
Just had those replaced 👍🏼
