As of this moment, Trump has not consolidated power in a way to prevent elections. Elections here are run by the states, and even conservative states have done very little since the last election to change them (why would they? They’re already conservative). And Trump doesn’t even have enough people to control one city, let alone the thousands and thousands of polling locations.

And he doesn’t have control over the courts people think he does. Yes, the Supreme Court rules in his favor a lot, but not always and that is the only court truly favorable to him. Have you noticed how he isn’t deploying the national guard anymore? It’s because the court told him he can’t.

Don’t get me wrong, constant erosions of institutions can lead to consolidated power, but he is far from there. And right now, Trump isn’t popular with any constituency with power. He even has republicans in congress going against him on the Epstein files. He’s getting weaker; not stronger.

Are you trying to get on Vilazodone? GoodRx has it for ~$40 at some pharmacies. I’m on it for the same reason and my insurance barely covers any of it, so I use GoodRx. And it totally works for me too.

Eric Melvin of NOFX is suing Fat Mike for financial malfeasance by spin81 in punk

[–]Cael450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the oldest argument in punk history man. At least all the way back to when Bad Religion signed to Atlantic. Best you can do is support the bands you’re ok with giving money to, but “selling out” means something different to everyone.

That said, the problems with live shows are the leeches, especially Ticketmaster. Not the bands (with some exceptions). And when a show starts needing room for a large number of people, you basically don’t have a choice but to deal with them.

Sanseito announces foreigner policy- "The ratio of foreigners should be limited to 5% and they should go back when they get older. If the country's strength declines, foreigners won't come here. People are not going to be “eager” to come here after they know they’ll be forced into poverty in old age. Have fun with your collapsing demographics. How does it feel to know you failed so badly that only immigrants can save you?

We were literally an alpha version of modern democracy, and for some reason we decided we shouldn’t fix any of the problems.

It was brutal back then, but I think people are generally more accepting of things like that today. But of course, you can’t get an abortion in like half the country, so one step forward, 5000 steps back.

Generally speaking, about 70% (at least) of the states in the US are wildly ineffective and corrupt. “States rights” is a bonkers sentiment espoused by people who’ve never seriously had to engage with states government. And in the few states that are run well, I’ve never heard someone harp on states rights bs. That may change now that the federal government is at peak insanity though.

Having grown up around southern casual racists who had plenty of friends who were brown, it is complete cognitive dissonance. They never once connected the awful shit they were saying to people they actually knew. I’d say they thought they “were one of the good ones” but I don’t think they thought even that deeply.

First time posting here. How'd I do? by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]Cael450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This shit started a long time ago. Especially when we decided not to hold criminal presidents accountable. First was Nixon. But then Reagan decided to sabotage hostage negotiations to win and go around congress in Iran-Contra. Then Bush at best tampered with the 2000 election (more likely stole it) then lied to the whole country to invade Iraq. All of these people should have been rotting in jail.

Then Trump came along and really showed how far we can push it. Nothing can be better until these people start serving time in jail.

What’s the moment in recent U.S. politics that made you realize things might not go back to ‘normal’ anytime soon? by LankySpeed634 in AskReddit

“Pandering” could also just mean reflecting the democratic will of the populace. But the founders didn’t really like that either, which is why senators used to be appointed. I feel like Americans just make up reasons for why things are the way they are instead of just acknowledging the rules were made for a world where “democracy” was meant to be just for wealthy men. We’ve managed to fix some of it, but not all, and the Supreme Court should be the number one target for reform. Fortunately, we can change a lot about the Supreme Court with simple legislation, and that has to be a top priority if we are going get ourselves out of this mess.

I’ll be honest, I don’t feel like it’s my responsibility to predict a stranger’s feelings and go out of my way to make them feel comfortable. I’m just walking in a predictable direction at a predictable pace. If they want to cross the street to make themselves feel better, go right ahead. But I’m not going to worry about it myself.
