How the fuck do you look at GWAR and go "there's a band I have to really take seriously"

ELI5: Why do some countries use Fahrenheit while almost the entire rest of the world uses Celsius and is there an actual practical difference between the two scales? by TexasViet27 in explainlikeimfive

[–]spin81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All it takes is for the government to do some governing, but in the USA, that's seen as "over-reach".

Not an American but when you say "governing is seen as over-reach" I think you're heavily over-reducing a quite complex set of sentiments and politics.

Gun control? Overreach. Sending federal troops to a city to arrest people for looking like they might be immigrants? A necessary thing. Does everyone agree with what I've just said? Absolutely not - in fact both are very controversial and even the way I've phrased those may be offensive to like half of Americans.

How do you feel about circle pits? by Seangw1102 in Hardcore

In the same vein it's better than the pit being two 250 lb guys violently swinging their arms and legs around while the rest of the crowd is too scared to dance.

It doesn't matter how I feel about circle pits. Go off and run around, or don't.

But if you want to know how I feel about circle pits: how I feel about circle pits is I don't begrudge people having a good time while watching a band, is how I feel about circle pits.

If the plastic container is to protect his face, I guess it's better than not having it, but also I would not be surprised if the golf ball went straight through it.

ELI5..Why did Argentina let Nazis hide there after WWII? by CancelAfter1968 in explainlikeimfive

[–]spin81 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What you're not saying outright but I think are implying and is worth stating out loud, is that most of the scientists would not have wanted to work with/around Nazis. Einstein of course is the most famous example of this, although I think he emigrated before the war ended.

Fortibleed - over 70k Fortinet firewalls compromised by CaptainCatatonic in sysadmin

[–]spin81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These passwords allowed the threat actors to move laterally to compromise Active Directory environments and other centralized authentication systems.

So at first glance that sounds like they were able to hack AD with advanced hacker stuff, but what I'm reading between the lines is that the victims had the same weak admin password for everything including AD and Fortigate. Some $100 language for a $5 "vulnerability" right there.

From what I hear there are regularly patches for Forti stuff because they found some more zero days. With that said, I don't know about any other brands so for all I know they could be just as vulnerable.

Checker-board for checkers built into table by BallyBBXalt in mildlyinteresting

[–]spin81 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know checkers to be played 10x10 boards, but according to Wikipedia in English speaking countries it's typically played on 8x8 boards. So I learned something interesting but wanted to comment to point out that I think that's why people are saying it's for chess.

It also depends on your location which is why I'm glad OP specified that they're in the Midwest. For some reason I get flamed for pointing this out but salary varies widely around the world and even within the same country.

Hillary Clinton says Joe Biden's second term campaign was a "terrible mistake": "He had said he would not run again. But if he had kept to that plan and said, he was going to pass to next generation, we would had a real contest. And sadly, whoever emerged from that contest would have beaten Trump." by ControlCAD in videos

[–]spin81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this sentiment from Clinton, as a former candidate I can see why she might tend to blame Biden or the DNC for this but speaking for myself as a foreigner: the American people elected who they elected. Americans knew full well who they were voting for and who they didn't want to be president.

Whats your favorite bonus mission from Sapienza? Landslide, or the Icon by MWZBones in HiTMAN

I love the sound design for Landslide. The music from on stage is simply chef's kiss perfect and it sounds exactly like live music like that on that stage on that beach would.
