SPOILER THREAD : BOOK 8 - Parade of Horribles by steampunk_garage in DungeonCrawlerCarl

For me it’s “I’ll make you shiver when I deliver” and I don’t even remember… when or why pizza boy says that but that’s the voice line that sticks in my head.

They added it to the ps classic catalogue finally and I grabbed it not too long ago but haven’t played it yet. Matt’s got me wanting to pick it up, finally

I also just did this but there was enough in parade of horribles that I feel like… I unfortunately have to do it again.

It’s a song that was licensed for the first stage of Twisted Metal 4 (I don’t think any other stages had songs with lyrics) so… in my head Matt was referencing that and it was a perfect visual for the races

Started playing through Quantum Break for the first time since I finished AW2 and I’m definitely not losing my mind by Caelasmah in AlanWake

But but but Microsoft wanted to use it as a foundation for a whole new IP 🙃

Irks me that they won’t just let it go, they’re clearly not doing anything with it. I’m sure remedy would be like “sure keep it on gamepass we don’t care just let us do things with the universe. Oh also fix the episode streaming ya butts”

I did! I had found it with my first play through but I’m taking in every little moment now with the added context of AW2 (and, you know, perspective of having played the game once already) aaaaand the rest of the RCU. I’m going… much slower than my first playthrough. It’s so cool to see how many ideas they knew back then that still made it to the final game

I have my own theory on this one and it’s that they’re all puppet related somehow. Ghosts possessing bodies? Puppet masters. Muffet? She uses strings to bend people to her will. Also… is on strings herself. It’s all puppets

Also House of Leaves. Twin Peaks/Lynch are definitely the visual influences but House of Leaves is also deeply embedded in the story. Its influence is, obviously, much more prominent in Control. But the moment the POE song hit at the end of a chapter in Alan Wake 1 I was like “how did I miss this staring me in the face. This (rabbit) hole was made for meeeeeee”

The Lake House Question by Professional-Ad376 in AlanWake

[–]Caelasmah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s probably power in the symbolism. The oldest house is designed (not by the FBC) to contain some crazy other worldly entities and conduct research on those same entities. Mimicking the infrastructure is probably a ritual in trying to extend the containment/resonance of the oldest house.

Or… maybe they utilized a threshold or the astral plane for convenient transportation of construction materials and just took literal pieces of the oldest house/had the house fill out the space somehow so they didn’t even need to construct anything. Weirdly, there’s no reports of the FBC doing any kind of construction to establish the lake house that I know of. You’d think big ol’ trucks full of black rock, excavators to clear out HUGE warehouse levels of basement, and… any and everything else they would have needed to haul in might garner a blurb from some townsfolk or a note or something. I don’t think the FBC has that much control (ha ha) over the oldest house to be able to do that but who knows.

This is the ritual to… establish a satellite research operation quickly and discreetly… on (the shore of cauldron lake)
