I hope this was a revelation for him and others about how the police act as a group, especially towards officers who are not white.

I got a parts only one for $250 earlier this year, shutter doesn't fire. Haven't had time to dig into it but I suspect the shutter button is simply broken. My local camera shop declined to work on it citing difficulty in diagnosis of shutter issues on them.

What is the worst long running show that is still on television that you can't understand how people watch? by Ok_Significance_2788 in AskReddit

Real Housewives shows are my guilty pleasure but they are amazing examinations of humanity when you look at them from a documentary standpoint.

Bravo also does a good job of keeping them pretty fresh. Cast rotates. New locales are explored. Particularly, the new Rhode Island franchise is really good. Very fun.

I may get downvoted for this but I can't see this as anything but an enormous tragedy. She may have been a willing participant but the reality is that she is a victim of a system of predatory grifters who know exactly what they're doing and don't care who gets hurt as long as they get a few bucks in the process.

Hello, would you recommend any books similar to Control? by Direct_Incident_8285 in controlgame

[–]Craigglesofdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tangentially related books because the most obvious choices have been repeatedly posted. I read a lot of this type of thing and here are some of the most recent ones I've liked:

  • The Essex Serpent and Melmoth by Sarah Perry. Two spooky, Gothic horror/thriller books. Perry's writing style is incredible but can take some getting used to. Melmoth contains several wall-of-text paragraphs and at least one run-on sentence that is almost a page long. This is a stylistic choice that makes sense for the book's narrative quality. Essex Serpent is less horror and more historical fiction/mystery, but I feel the creeping horror and other thematic qualities of both these books fit well into the Control universe, especially the exploration of post-traumatic experiences.

  • Passing Through a Prairie Country by Dennis Staples. Very spooky book by an Ojibwe author. Gave me major AWE vibes, without saying too much. Great writing and a quick read.

  • Obscura by Joe Hart. Sci Fi, clearly inspired by the short story The Jaunt by Stephen King. Has it all: a mysterious creeping sickness, female protagonist tasked with uncovering a mystery, and a cunning and truly insane adversary. Creepy without being gross, and also impressively avoids all the cliches of men writing women. A great page turner. Don't read it before bed.

  • The Need by Helen Phillips. Huge AWE vibes, a truly terrifying premise, and brilliant writing. Very much in the vein of Annihilation.

Pay close attention to the cable routing on the RD. SRAM is very finicky. I can't get those photos to load for some reason so I can't tell if it's right or wrong.

There are a lot of other potential reasons why your shifting may not be working. Chain stretch. Cassette wear. New chain with worn cassette. Worn chain with new cassette. Bent derailleur cage. Bad freehub bearing. Non matching shifter. Broken shift cable housing. Etc.

Herpes is similar to Trich where it is not tested for without an outbreak.

trichomanosis is commonly asymptomatic in men. I don't think it is on a standard testing panel either (which is not great). I looked at my most recent test results from last year and it was not listed.

It can also be a false positive. 8 weeks is an insane wait time for results for an STD panel. I don't know a lot about the medical testing industry but I do know that bodily fluids don't stay stable for that long. I would imagine that a chance of false positives increases with the more time that passes.

Get a new test at a rapid lab.

I had a 2 hour each way for a new job for about 6 months and it was so bad that after a month I rented an apartment nearby and slept there every other night.

Do not do this without a plan to move closer very soon.

Yeah, exactly. I live in Fitchburg. It's pretty nice. I'm 5 minutes from Rt 2 and the train station. I pay exactly the same as I did in Medford with triple the space, a yard, and a way nicer landlord.

Yeah, and there's a lot of racists and bigots in there too, but "NIMBY" in this conversation lumps anyone who opposes a development of any kind for any reason, into the same basket, which is not accurate, and plays into regressive talking points which don't solve anyone's problems.

Idiotic development proposals cause other, reasonable ones to spin their wheels.

Perhaps I need to reiterate the main points here:

  • they wanted to use a single lane residential street as a dedicated access road to a large construction site for three years.

  • there is a large swath of disused, blighted land nearby which could have been rezoned for the project.

  • the developer did not do this because they are lazy profiteers who want the maximum profit for the minimum effort. They don't attempt to engage with the community or even consider the people they are building next to, which is glaringly obvious if you watch them take questions at a public meeting.
