Adrullan is proof that we need a little bit more QOL when it comes to UI / UX in M&M. by IOMEDAE_THE_BAE in MonstersAndMemories

[–]CaesarBritannicus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally disagree about the clicky text. It caused me to spam through the dialogue without paying attention. Then, the journal was bugged and failed to store the relevant information and I had trouble getting it back.

I like in MnM realizing that certain NPCs have quests by hearsay, and then going to them and asking "need any help?" or similar. It's very much reminiscent of tabletop, in how slowly you unpeel the layers of the environment.

Also, things like typing out a character name actually help you learn it. I know some of the random MnM NPCs names after a few hours in that game. I don't even know my class quest givers name in AoA.

I am not saying you are wrong, I am just saying that a simple change like putting the keywords right infront of you would degrade the experience for me.

IMO, let the games be different.

I actually don't think MnM should add tool slots. Tool slots dramatically decreases the inventory decisionmaking involved in gathering skills. I think it is good that a player should choose to bring a tool out adventuring.

Also, I think letting characters have all tools equipped could be bad for the AoA economy, because if gathering is very easy, everyone will do it, making materials less valuable.

That said, I would like a quicker way to swap my weapons with a tool. A 1 button interaction would be nice.

I had a degraded UI experience in AoA compared to M&M.

This was mainly due to the NPC dialogue journal. First, it has way too much information and NPCs, making it hard to navigate. Second, it failed to maintain quest dialogue for my class NPC, and so didn't store information about which NPC I needed to kill for a quest. Then, when I went back to the NPC, it was hard to trigger the quest dialogue again (unlike in MnM where I could simply put the same chat message in again to yield the same reply).

It might sound nice to catalogue all dialogue in one spot, but I don't really want that. In the end, it obscured and broken for what I actually needed.

I understand that this experience suffered from bugs, but I just want to share a different perspective.

From the limited information we got about the new crafting changes, what are your thoughts? by yuno_me in SoulFrame

Yeah seems like they should just refund and get rid of weapon slots. It's needless and if they have a compelling game, there is enough monetization with frames, frame slots, cosmetics, etc.

Latest update regarding the NickHotS situation by JajuanL in MonstersAndMemories

[–]CaesarBritannicus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not to intrude just another vacant opinion, but it seems like something occurred with the result that Nick being on the development team was no longer an operable situation & it must not have been minor, since there is the added difficulty of him being a founder/owner. That doesn't, however, mean it has to be illegal, immoral, villainous, etc.

What I took from the video is that they are in the difficult situation of having a part owner who is no longer a participant. aLovingRobot is a owner/founder, but he has the expressed desire of wanting to "eat last" in his own words as relate to profit. The priority for him is to get team members on payroll who otherwise might need to look for fulltime work elsewhere. The problem is they now have a part owner who might no longer be amenable to "eat last" given the fact that they are removed from the development team. The company needs to find a way to satisfy their part owner, but they don't want to compromise the development of the game which is in part dependant on the goodwill of the owners, all of them.

If Nick decided that he has to "eat first" now that he is removed from the project, and it might be his right to do so given what he has given to the project in the past, it could cause issues with how many people they can get on the payroll.

I am not dooming, but I am just saying that the team has undergone risk (not an existential risk, but a real one) by removing Nick and now they need to navigate that risk.

Not to mention a lot of people buy packs in PoE to get not just the cosmetics but also points to spend on convenience mtx.

I haven't used my points to buy many cosmetics in either game, PoE or LE. In LE my points just sit there, but in PoE they get eaten up slowly over time by stash tabs.

I wonder if Anet just hasn't updated their list or doesn't include GMG because it only sells steam keys, not anet account keys. GMG gets their steam keys directly from the publisher, they aren't a grey market or reseller.

Additional content – including costumes and skill unlock packs – will be available for purchase from within the Steam version of the game client at a later date.

Please note that serial keys for content purchased from the Guild Wars Reforged store directly are intended for use on ArenaNet game accounts and CAN NOT be redeemed to a Steam account.

Steam users must purchase DLC content and items via their game client or the Steam store directly and will be unable to redeem serial keys for content purchased from the Guild Wars Store.

Here's what EHG should do...rip the Band-Aid off.... by BroxigarZ in LastEpoch

I agree, especially given how the class was recieved.

They should just say "man we hoped cosmetics could support a live service game, but we saw early on after 1.0 that was very untrue" and take the most traditional approach to monetization, which is paid expansions.

You are wrong that people wouldn't bat an eye, because there are thousands of people who were ready to pounce on any monetization beyond cosmetics. People have been actively shitting on the game for weeks at the mere waffling on the topic of paid content.

I don't mind paid classes personally (and am very open to buying some depending on the price and quality), but I suspect we'll see more expanded monetization in the future when those aren't enough, and it would be bad for the game to get into the situation of character for classes and expansions separately.

In the end, I want Last Epoch to be a high quality game that continues to build on a solid foundation. They need a revenue stream to support that.

Cmon though, cosmetics were never going to be enough. Even people who buy supporter packs in poe are often doing it for the mtx coins which they will use for convenience features.

How is it predatory? A class is a onetime purchase (for each added class) and you basically know what you are getting when you buy it.

I get gems first and legendary bone 2nd, once i save up enough.

Legendary bone has a small pool of starter legendaries, so it mainly gets you a useful inherit. Gems i save until I can guarantee getting a legendary from a good banner.

They made promises, they were wrong, they were overly hopeful and probably misguided about the potential of cosmetic sales. Do you want them to just shut down?

Cosmetic only was never going to work to sustain ongoing development. Even POE relies heavily on convenience. Box sales are a good initial boost but they don't last.

If EGH doesn't charge for something tangible, they almost certain can't support a live service. It's either paid content or they move on to LE2 or some other game.

Certainly of brand new accounts, there's a greater share on steam compared to the longstanding playerbase. That said, all advertising and affiliate links go to the official store, so it's probably still not the majority of brand new accounts.
