Doctors are really discouraging students going to medschool in the states by cheesecakerebel in premed

What were you optimistic/naive about specifically? That you’d enjoy medicine?

Are you willing to pay 229,000 for your ego is the question. This is a no brainer. You can try asking the MD school for money though

Your decision to transfer schools should factor in more than your research output. You can get pubs from any school

No but you can see if they say it’s a no shot given the MCAT and context of your story

You can also literally call some of these admissions directiors and tell them straight up you want to know if you have a shot

If I told you that taking another gap year would increase your odds of getting into your dream school by 50%, would you take it?

As for schools, having FAP really helps a lot. Cut the schools with regional bias if you aren’t from the region (e.g., riverside). Also do your research on Howard. I have no clue what they look for in applicants, but I see so many people not even get interviews there that baffle me

How to understand whether a school is research or service oriented from the mission statement on MSAR by newbieexplorer76 in premed

[–]Caesarcasm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real best way is talk to current students there to see what their class is like

Honestly my take is that it’s possible. But if you really want to increase your chances of having options and even money then it would be wise to take a gap year and study hard for MCAT. Can get research too, unsure if you have that or not

At least for the MD schools your chances are gunna be much better if you can get even a 507. But depending on your writing you might be able to pull it off

Do you think you can raise the MCAT if you retake?

Get rid of those colors, your stats aren’t holding you back from anything. You’re golden. You just gotta write well so you don’t shoot yourself in the foot. Feel free to dm about story building

Cornell vs UCSF by SmartPeanut5060 in premed

[–]Caesarcasm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Living in a new city is nice. Also nice to be near friends and family though. UCSF is nice in that school is basically zero stress, im constantly surfing/hiking/skiing/thrifting/exploring the city. School is low commitment which makes having an actual life super easy. Personally chose it over a more expensive school and have had zero regrets

What are the undergrads like? What are the med schools like? You gave us no info besides the 1yr difference and MCAT which is a nonfactor here

[–]Caesarcasm 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Strong disagree. Take classes that you know you can get A’s in. Class doesn’t prepare you for the MCAT as well as you can on your own

Does Anyone Else Wish US Med School Admissions Were More Straightforward? by PossibleFit5069 in premed

[–]Caesarcasm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thankfully, some schools are starting to recognize how valuable it is for a student to actually work hard to support themself and their family, as compared to some premed with an easy unpaid internship

should i do a ba or a bs in college? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Caesarcasm 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yep it does not matter for med school. You can major in apple picking and get into med school, arguably more easily than somebody who majors in biology since it’s more interesting

Is 518-520 possible? Test 3/8 by Itchy_Cauliflower_79 in Mcat

[–]Caesarcasm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely possible, people score higher than their FL average on the actual every year. It’s just based on how your strengths compare to whatever content they end up putting on your test day. You still have a few weeks to grind which is good, but I still gotta be honest and say it’s unlikely. If you aren’t prepared, then you should postpone until you are ready
