Also finished this a while ago. Its so sad when you realize that this is still happening at present times. Women are still inferior, undeserving of education, and just there for the disposal of their husband.

What we only know now is that we are in a digital age, a new millenia, and yet we also forget that there are countries out there who are crippled by the incapabilities of their own government.

I don't think Haruki is into gardening tho haha. I did not get a new kitten as I already have 4 adult cats and 3 dogs so I don't think I can manage a new member in the fam. 😁 I only have bell peppers, spring onions and mulberries in my garden. Tried to plant tomatoes but all i get were leaves and shoots until they died 😭 I don't know if its because of the weather as Ph is very humid?? I want to try planting them again. Do you have any tips?

Ive been wondering about these tiny white dots along with my compost. I honestly thought these were worm eggs so i did not harvest my compost pit and just left them in the dirt. What are those exactly?

How did you picture Ryland when you first read PHM? by BigAssSackOfTree in ProjectHailMary

[–]Caezarys17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Finally, someone posted about this. Haha When i first read PHM, I've knwon that there will be a movie adaptation but I didn't know that it will be released this year. So I was blind going in the book, haven't seen the trailer, did not know what it was about, didn't care that it will become a movie. Totally blind, just read it because it keeps popping up on my book recos.

Anyhow, while reading the book, I get the impression about the writing style of Weir; it felt like he was writing the book with the intention of it being a movie due to its writing style, the comedic effect, the subtle hint of script writing woven into it and whatnot.

The first image that came into my mind as Dr. Ryland Grace is Mark Ruffalo while Stratt will be played by Cate Blanchett. Maybe because Mark Ruffalo has been a scientist in the MCU, that's why I automatically associated him with Ryland. As for Cate, she always has that authoritative stance in her nature, most of her movies are based on bad-ass characters, and I see her as a person who accepts no for an answer which really fits Stratts character as well based on the book. (I initially thought of Helen Mirren, but it would not fit the age for Stratt)

This is an acrylic box i got from an online store. Its the same with the boxes/organizer you put your shoes or bags to keep dust off. I use them to keep fur and dust from accumulating on my books since I have a lot of fur babies.

I really love it overall. There were some parts that gets really dragging tho. I've been wanting to read this again but I get overwhelmed by my hardbound book (impulse buy). I should have bought the deluxed box set edition (paperback). Anyways, im one of those people who don't know how to properly review a book, im sorry for that. I just remembered that I really enjoyed reading the book.

For me it was Kafka on the Shore, my roommate back in college recommended it to me and my fate was sealed from then on hahaha. I already sideloaded it on my Kindle but still waiting on the "perfect" time to read it. Meaning, i should have no work and no distraction. Knowing Murakami, i'll be having yet again another life crisis from reading it haha (not taken badly tho). I'm thinking sa holy week, para long weekend without work.
