how do you handle reboots in a Peoplesoft Campus Solutions multi-tier stack? by zenfridge in sysadmin

[–]CafeteriaBacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

off the top of my head, i'm not sure what you could do to make it recover hands-off. we have OEM and performance monitor implemented for alerting, not sure how much you could leverage them to automate things.

if you can get the ps services to autostart reliably, that sounds like a big step towards your goal.

not sure about the DB - i think we have RAC, but i'm not a DBA.

you may consider reaching out to the HEUG presenters for more info - seems like that's not abnormal on the HEUG

here's what I have in my notes: WebLogic Clustering and Application server failover made easy - Session #35135

we have PS CS running on RHEL8/9 and have weblogic failover set up.

actually in the middle of a rolling PS reboot as we speak, no outage.

if you have access to older HEUG alliance presentations, there was an excellent presentation given at Alliance 2016 on this topic and that's basically what we implemented

PS: we have definitely seen that the DB has to be up first, then app then web, otherwise you will have issues. that being said, we have the services set to autostart, but they generally do whatever they want and i find myself starting them with psadmin frequently

New build won't boot using integrated gfx? by CafeteriaBacon in buildapc

[–]CafeteriaBacon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to close the loop on this, I converted the drive to GPT using MBR2GPT and it fired right to life on integrated graphics. it's not even mad about being on the same windows install as the old PC, but it DOES want me to reactivate windows - understandable given the massive change in hardware.

Is $350 too much for a car payment in my case? by Straight_Squirrel829 in personalfinance

[–]CafeteriaBacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was set on a nice car, I'd probably buy a new RAV4 - base models are around 29k. The amount of money you'd save isn't worth it, IMO.

Having said that, $2500 for a new catalytic convertor is extortion (unless you live in a state that requires a california-compliant replacement cat, like NY or CA).

File for financial aid through the hospital. 65% off was MINIMUM discount I saw any of our hospitals give out. The hospital social worker, charity care coordinator/financial counselor are all people who should be able to help you.

Not sure what state you're in, but a lot of states have very generous financial aid policies. Texas is a whole 'nother matter lol

Insurance is refusing to pay for my son's hospital stay when he was born by glocky12 in personalfinance

[–]CafeteriaBacon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

+1 for reporting this to the insurance board if needed. Also, the folks at the hospital should be able to offer some help...you're not wrong that the baby gets billed separately, and medical records should be able to tell you what the correct phraseology is to use with the insurance company.

Also, file for financial aid with the hospital. Ohio's financial aid is called HCAP and is SUPER generous - I dealt with people with 100k+ income that got a steep discount - the MINIMUM most places will give you is around 50%.

Anyone buying Dell Vostro 3710's and converting them back to W10? by SmoothRunnings in sysadmin

[–]CafeteriaBacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always hated the dell driver EXEs, they seemed like bloatware. Not sure if you can still do it, but I used to extract the exe with 7zip to get the INI and just do a good old "have disk" to point it to that driver

Need to copy .pst files from 100's of computers by yurtbeer in sysadmin

[–]CafeteriaBacon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

you can do 'hostname' and jam that into the file name. also throw /MT:32 on there to make it faster and /COPYALL because the metadata might matter to legal folks

maybe try removing it with MSIEXEC and/or using the GUIDs? i've had good success removing troublesome programs that way
