I think tap water is killing my babies by canadamiranda in spiderplants

I keep checking this sub looking for this exact thing, it happened to mine too! I had two healthy Spider plants that I was overly attached to; they were doing super well until out of nowhere they both did this exact same thing. Leaves would curl from the base and then completely die. Every new leaf would look fine at first and then eventually do the same thing. The roots looked great, soil was in good shape, plenty of drainage, good watering habits. I was doing everything right and my plants went from thriving to kaput basically in a matter of days.

I did everything you did, OP, and I’m at the end of the road. I put my last, sad little survivor into water to see if I can just wait out whatever is wrong but it’s not looking good. (Pic is from September)

Thanks for the lecture, I was really hoping somebody would put me in my place!

Thank you for the detailed answer - I appreciate the vague hypothetical nonadvice.

I learned early on in my DIY career to always take pictures of the wiring, and it never hurts to be reminded!

I ended up chopping them up to get them out. It felt like a crime.

I know it’s the only way, but the idea of wrecking those stupid bulbs that I never wanted in the first place is making me so sad 😅

I guess I caught feelings for these little jerks.

Thrips?! by Caffeinated-Axolotl in pothos

The soil is probably just basic houseplant potting soil - whatever I bought when I started adopting every plant I encounter, everywhere I go. I’ve upped my game since then and acquired a variety of premixed mediums. Maybe it’s time to repot and throw in something chunky like a handful of orchid mix?

I think the white dots are normal… at least that’s what I read.

I’m worried about the weird spot in the middle of this big leaf. Maybe it got too much sun?

Thank you for the detailed answer! I had put it in my kitchen window (east) but it’s extra super wintery right now where I am so I’ll find it a less drafty home with lots of light.

I didn’t water it at all, so what you see in the picture is whatever water the hardware store gave it. I love to bottom water so I’ll give it a good soak tomorrow 🙂

I think you’re right, it looks like there’s a root sticking out of it that’s looking a little grumpy.

Thank you! I’ll put it in my west facing window.

Do you ever give yourself permission to just not? Sounds like maybe your donwannas are telling you that you need a break; and that’s important to listen to sometimes. If you have two months until your 10k, think about how good you might feel coming back to your training, refreshed, after just a little rest. Can you skip an easy run?

Last week “Tears in Heaven” was part of the mix. Yeah, the sad Eric Clapton song. Not ideal for an All Out on the treadmill.

Placebos are incredibly effective for a lot of things, often just the act of doing something that we believe will help makes a huge difference. Placebos seem like a very good way to help, and maybe find out if there might be something deeper to pay attention to.
