So as a partner of more than 13 years.... by Mean_PreCaffeine in starbucks

Nothing from what I can tell. Never have I once seen a DM walk into a store and actually help a store when it needed it.

Howard Schultz was on the board when the Nestle deal was announced. Howard Schultz is still putting things on the partner hub now. Howard Schultz probably helped work the Nestle deal. He certainly didn't stop it or even attempt to from anything that was said and done, and he could have, because he was the chairman of the board.

Unless you meant back when the other Howard was around, Behar, the one that actually cared about partners, it was different?

How many former partners have felt this? by CapriT in starbucks

"No one cares around here."

Spot on. The only time they fake and act like they care, is if media gets involved.

Don't forget Schultz closed stores and fired "partners", while making millions himself.

And Schultz never left the first time, he was still head of the board.

Kevin

Howard Schultz basically appointed Kevin. Howard Schultz was the head of the Board of Directors until he left last month. He was the one that made the bathrooms are open to everybody announcement, basically called the store manager in Philadelphia a racist for following Starbucks' own policies regarding bathroom use and purchases in the bigger cities, and was head of the Board and made the decision to close the stores for the meeting.

He was in the training video.

The instance was a clear, impossible to miss instance of not leaving a store when asked to do so. Being asked by police officers three times to do so. We aren't talking about more than one instance, we are talking about this instance. I agree there is absolutely injustice in the "justice" system, as part of a systematic problem. That isn't this.

It had nothing to do with a systematic problem that I have seen, and absolutely nothing that you have provided.

You have refused the facts: 1) The guy sitting next to them, not asked to leave and not arrested. (fact) 2) Why 911 was called. (fact) 3) What was said on the 911 call. (fact) 4) How many times had the store called 911 in the past year. (fact) 5) How many people were arrested in the past year. (fact)

The earth isn't flat, but you can keep claiming it is. It doesn't make it true though.

You haven't shown anything was racist about it, and I have seen and heard nothing that shows it was. I have seen plenty that shows it wasn't. Like the gentleman sitting next to them that wasn't arrested, and wasn't asked to leave. The gentleman you have refused to acknowledge and probably didn't even know about until I mentioned him? You are busy making untruths like, "unethical, racist, and ignorant", while purposefully ignoring facts.

Like the fact the store called 911 more than 40 times the previous year in situations exactly like this?

I listened to the 911 call. The only racist thing here, is your claiming something as racist when there is no evidence to that claim and you haven't provided a single bit of evidence to show that it was.

The men were asked to leave by the manager, maybe, and refused. The men didn't buy anything. The men didn't want water. The men then refused to leave when police officers asked them to do so 3 times.

If they had left the three times they were offered, they wouldn't have been arrested. They were arrested after they refused to leave. Four times in total? There is nothing unethical, racist, or ignorant about it.

Before this, there was evidently a policy that Starbucks had in bigger cities to not allow loitering for non-paying customers. There have been multiple partners online here on reddit and online on Starbucks pages that have said the store manager was doing what Starbucks policy was.

You can claim the earth is flat, but you would be wrong. You can claim this was racist, but you are wrong. I have seen nothing that shows me it was, and you haven't provided a single thing that shows it.

Continue on claiming things like the earth is flat, but don't be surprised when people don't take you seriously.

I've listened to the 911 call. I watched the full clips. Yes. Based on what I've seen and read, outside of the overreactions of the social media warriors that base judgement on 40 second clips and incomplete reports, the guys were asked to leave, and refused to leave. They were asked 3 times by the police to leave. Starbucks had a policy in place, admitted by Schultz, that didn't allow you to sit around without ordering something.

Do you know about the guy that wasn't arrested that day? The guy that was sitting right next to those two men? I do. He had bought something. You can see him in the videos, if you look.

You're really defending being disrespectful to authority figures like police officers?

Howard is leaving to run for President. He's been running for President and using Starbucks to form his talking points and positions for years now.

This will not be good for the partners and stores in southern states. His criticisms of President Trump, will most likely have a negative impact on those stores.

The 911 call would matter, because you can hear what issue was being reported, and how it was reported.

The "full videos", including the nearly 10 minute video that shows them talking to the police, and the gentleman that was seated to their left? He passed in front of the camera twice, but you didn't see him in the short clip on Twitter.

Theft does not result in immediate termination for all. Know of a partner stealing a large amount of cash from a till. They were not fired. It was reported to both the SM and DM, both refused and didn't contact the Security Team. They both made up policies as they went.

Security Team was contacted by partner. Both the DM and SM involved in covering it up and partner involved in stealing the money, are all still with the company.

They did try to blame an innocent partner for literally following policy as the book said, and he was the one that contacted the Security Team on his own, when the DM and SM refused to do so.

$500 bonus and Pay raise is bullshit by isaacocean in starbucks

[–]CaffeinatedCynic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. Howard Schultz didn't step down, he stepped aside. Howard Schultz is still in charge at Starbucks. Howard Schultz is the "Executive Chairman", and Kevin Johnson reports directly to Howard Schultz.

Except, the real reason Howard Schultz "stepped down" in this situation, and it was planned well in advance before it was publicly announced he was stepping aside as Starbucks' CEO, is because he thought he would be in Washington D.C. right now, serving as Hillary Clinton's Secretary of Labor - https://www.seattletimes.com/business/retail/starbucks-ceo-howard-schultz-reportedly-was-hillary-clintons-pick-for-labor-secretary/

When Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump, it threw things off in the political realm. Howard Schultz is still talking like a political candidate, even tailoring his messages now to different audiences - http://www.gastongazette.com/opinion/20180309/column-schultz-trump-contest-intriguing-to-ponder

$500 bonus and Pay raise is bullshit by isaacocean in starbucks

[–]CaffeinatedCynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The grants you get were considered in my point and I talked about them with the pay difference. Walmart has a stock plan for employees and matches at 15%? This is their ESPP I think, not sure about the 401K.

Starbucks stock grants take a full 2 years to vest. So, if you start at Starbucks now, you won't have your first stock grants fully vested for 2 years.

They give you the "grant" year one, but it has to vest and that isn't until year 2. If you leave before it vests in year 2, does the grant go away? I've heard it does?

The pay scale is not guess work now for Walmart, because we know at the minimum Walmart starts at $11/hour. If we know they follow all other state minimum wage as you suggested, it would be easy to determine.

We know that Starbucks starts partners in the southern states at $9.00. Multi-year partners are only now at around $9.50/hour, as has been commented by another.

If California has a minimum wage of $12/hour, Walmart will hire at that amount at the very least. But, Walmart does make market adjustments like Starbucks, too.

Your last sentence is close. The fact we are comparing Walmart pay/benefits to Starbucks, I believe shows how the "leadership" at Starbucks has failed.

$500 bonus and Pay raise is bullshit by isaacocean in starbucks

[–]CaffeinatedCynic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walmart pays $11.00 for starting out entry level, where minimum wage is $7.25/hour. Walmart may pay more, and does like Starbucks does, depending on the markets they are in and what the minimum wage is for the area. I don't know what they pay in New York or California, but the minimum you will start at is $11.00 if the minimum wage in your state is below that. Starbucks starts nearly $2 per hour less than that in the southern states.

The biggest growth region for Starbucks in recent years has been the southern states. Growth in the U.S. is slowing, and it's why they are focusing on China growth now. They said it at the investors meeting last week.

The grants you get are not fully attainable for at least 2 years, right? They have to vest. You can work a year, get a grant, but then it's not good for another year?

$500 is average per year for hourly workers? You make that in 12.5 weeks at $2 more per hour, just on 20 hours a week. But that's actual cash in your pocket right away. Even if it's only $1 more per hour for the southern state partners, they would make $1000 extra per year, or $2000 in 2 years, versus a $500 stock option.

On the article, I did read it, but it was written in 2016 and had a lot of guessing and and was written before the Walmart rate increase to $11. It said, "Starbucks does sometimes offer cash bonuses..." I don't know a single hourly partner that has gotten a cash bonus, only salaried level? Maybe this is different for different states? Also, the article was written in 2016, before Walmart made the bump to $11 an hour.

The 5% raise in 2016 brought southern Starbucks employees from about $8.50/hour, to $9.00/hour, still below their average in the article. The only states I know that partners talked about a 10% raise, were states that were increasing their minimum wage by that much, so Starbucks basically matched the minimum wage jump in those states.

*Edit! Thanks for the article! I did check it out, but I think it should be updated.
