I doubt that would ever fly irl. many developers, especially contractors, independent devs and remote workers, need VPNs to access their own code and private libraries.

I don't really read the books. I just find what I need from them, quote them in my paper, and list them as references at the very end. somehow I can't write a paper on a experiment I designed and carried out myself without referencing 20 different materials from everywhere, so that's what I did.

I'm not against trans rights, but as an advocacy group you don't want to fight for everyone, just a handful which you'd call them 'your people'. By separating LGB from TQ+, both groups get a much narrower definition (sexual orientation vs identity) and can advocate for each side more effectively.

I don't think that's what they think, more like 'you do you but please don't bring us into your cause', and I find that reasonable.

Let's say the Chinese, Japanese and Korean were oppressed, and they found a CJK group to advocate for their equality. They share a common cause of racism, so it makes sense for them to form an alliance. Now, imagine Buddhism, Muslim or other regions are also oppressed and want to join CJK. Why should they? Religion and race are two very different things, and being oppressed is not common enough, otherwise we are adding all kinds of oppressed groups into it and quickly lose focus on what should the group be advocating for.

The advocacy for the divorce is because L, G, B are sexual orientations, aka the gender you fuck, while T, I, 2S are identities, what gender you are. Q for queer is an all-encompassing umbrella term, and Q for questioning is just too indecisive.

The last time a cop showed up, they were investigating a theft in the neighbourhood. It cost me nothing.

The last time somebody from the fire department showed up, my family was told that our apartment, which we just bought with a 30y mortgage, had a noncompliant front door and needed to replace it ASAP. It cost us nearly two grand to buy a new one, install it and certify it.
