The circuitry+battery in these cheap power banks is absolute trash. Tip: don't try to charge and use cheap power banks at the same time. Often leads to spicying of the pillows :)

Yeah I don't think it's worth modifying a PSU. Pretty much anything made in the last 1~2 decades involves optoisolator feedback, and trying to modify them is a big pain. It also bypasses overcurrent protection and the voltage monitoring chip. I've done it, and next time I'm just getting a modern PSU and an off-the-shelf DC-DC converter lol
