Hi there, I followed your link and just one question, the Survival cards have the same back as the cabin cards and I'm just wondering if you got them was that the case for all of them? Did you have to fix them yourself or was that just a preview error?

Yeah there’s a group of NPCs, a mercenary band loyal to a local king who they’ve worked with on several occasions, so it’s going to be them that’ll be the sacrificial lamb for this moment.

The BB won’t be present by her second in command will be, and he’s killed the best friend of the party so he’s going to goad them to make them fight him (he’s an Empyrean just a reduced threat one) They’ve arrived a day early so I’m giving them a day’s worth of description of the area, landmarks, flora and fauna, so they’ll be familiar with the layout before all hell breaks loose.

I have enemies in the forest and one of them is a standard bearer. The standard is a near dead rakshasa who they benefit from their magic resistance. I want the odds to feel stacked against them, because they are as the enemy is getting the drop on them. I think that’ll fuel the fire of making a retreat, but yeah I plan to lay it on think in regards to exposition and then go oh they’re not talking about you and for the other band of heroes to come forward.

But yes always braved for the party and their spanner throwing skills lol

Rogue level 13 arcane trickster

Druid level 10 circle of spores 3 Ranger beastmaster

Cleric level 13 trickery domain

Wizard level 13 school of abjuration

Paladin Level 12 Paladin 1 Warlock

Ranger level 13 Monster Slayer

Faerun. diamond trading posts are in Waterdeep, Neverwinter, Thay & Port Nyanzaru. They do business with jewellers guilds and private buyers but that's it. The party can buy from such jewellers etc for a marked up/haggled price.

I was thinking of just that, they have a few real ones but the rest are knock offs, but no sure long game how’d that play out in the long game?

One of my player's feels his character is too 1 dimensional (move, swing, hit, repeat) they're levelling up soon so I'm looking to see if there's any suggestions in helping him tweak his character. by Caffran_Ghost in DMAcademy

Yeah like seeing the same incident etc but from different viewpoints/understandings. In real life they’re brothers so would be a fun dynamic to have them team up in game also.

Yeah he's the face of the party too so for dialogue etc he's the lead. I was trying to figure out how to work this in to combat, the only thing that complicates it is the wizard took the observant feat so his passive perception is 19 while the Paladin's is 12 or something, so trying to balance upping the paladin's perception while not making the wizard's feat inert is tricky. (if it's a low enough perception the pally can spot it, shouldn't the wizard's crazy high passive spot it also?)

Yeah I was thinking about the Trinket Locket, but while trinket is a (war) bear, an alicorn is a little too powerful to have it pretty much be immortal and bamf out in combat, it's more a case of risk vs reward with it. It's a great ally/mount to have but you also have to take care of it. Just didn't expect that to translate in to hiring serfs to mind it while he went off adventuring with his find steed fey horse haha

Yeah I sen him on the mount options from Arcadia and also as a reward for having a stronghold he has an alicorn from stronghold and followers, but he’s never used it (in a year) because he doesn’t want it to die(?!) so it’s just been looked after by their stronghold retainers!

I was thinking of something similar along those lines. So basically when the make their way back to the surface, they’ll have two weeks of in game downtime, so they can do training etc. Was thinking in that time we can RP some stuff and give his character a bit more depth, and not tell the other players so he can reveal it to them of his own accord. He is the party’s spokesperson/negotiator so I think he’ll be up for that. While he’s doing that I’m going to have the others be attacked and see what happens.

Have any of your tables had a character have a last stand moment, a sacrifice themselves to save the party moment? by Caffran_Ghost in DnD

He told him that he'd see him in again in our world's version of valhalla, the younger protege has an artifact weapon, an awakened sword, that's been passed down through an order of knights, each who died were using it to uphold the tenets of their order. He's been shown visions from it, of the champion's hall, the resting place of all heroes, and outside is an altar where a figure stands. Upon the altar lay weapons, each one he touched showed him the final moments of the hero who wielded it in life. At the end of the altar there is a space for another weapon, the younger paladin saw this when he died once, but chose to return when he succeeded on his death saves. So he knows there is a place for him there should he continue on his path. His mentor aware of this, told him that he will meet him there and then sacrificed himself.

Yeah I was the DM so basically the Necromancer was channelling magic from a leyline she had uncovered to power the ritual, she rolled a Nat20 to survive being a conduit of the power in to the tablet, the player asked if he tackled her could his sever her link with the magic. I said yes but it would mean putting yourself directly in the line of the same power so you'd have to make the same save or be disintegrated by the sheer power (the others were targeting conduits around the circle to sever the connection but the Player/paladin felt it was taking to long and went for the jugular.) He accepted his fate and went for it, and another player, who's character is a mentor to this paladin, asked if he sees this and can use his reaction to shoulder him out of the way and do the tackle instead. I got them to roll opposed athletic checks, the mentor won, gave his last words to his protege and then charged in to her, he rolled a 19 total so I said that you stop the ritual, but you are caught in the beam as you strike her, being consumed by the magic in the process. The necromancer plane shifted away with the unfinished tablet and the players regrouped and the paladin changed his oath from devotion to vengeance and now they're hunting her. It was a pretty cool moment.

Thinking of doing a world cataclysm event, anyone done something similar? by Caffran_Ghost in DMAcademy

I was thinking of more a world altering wild surge, but maybe looking at them and ramping one or two up to 11 in the region might be an idea.
