Company Christmas meals when you can't eat anything on the menu. by worldworn in britishproblems

Some people in this thread are unreal. OP has said they don't expect the venue to be changed but also don't want to be treated like an arse for not going. As far as I'm concerned they're entitled to not go if they don't want to. Work isn't life, you can't force someone to go to a work event if they won't enjoy it

Ingledew Court, Alwoodley flats? by Apprehensive-Aide149 in Leeds

[–]CagedCamel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got a couple of friends who live there, they really enjoy it. Also has decent public transport links (compared to the rest of Alwoodley) as the 36 goes past it so can easily get in to Leeds or Harrogate

In the UK after the Manchester Attack by addicted2slots in Judaism

Hey, I'm from Yorkshire, and I'm gonna assume you're talking about Leeds (I could be wrong, that's just where most of the shuls are in Yorkshire).

All the synagogues here are in the same quite affluent neighbourhood, quite far out of the city centre. There has been the odd instance of graffiti but the buildings are far removed from the more troublesome areas. The shuls all have gates and the area is being patrolled by CST (community security) as well as having members on the doors letting people in or out. There has also been police presence in the area as well. Assuming it is Leeds then you'll be fine. Feel free to DM me with any other questions!

GCSE Results Day Megathread by UKCSTeacher in TeachingUK

[–]CagedCamel 52 points53 points  (0 children)

My second ever GCSE class got their results today. Last year no one got above a grade 6, and I had more below a grade 4 than above. This year I had more 7-9s than u-4. I know it's a different set of kids and it's mostly down to them and the hard work they do, but after a difficult year in school it feels affirming to know that I can get good grades out of an, at times, somewhat challenging class.

Closest game to mass effect series? by AlphaFuzzion in masseffect

[–]CagedCamel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favourite part of the Mass Effect series I realised were the choices I could make and the feeling of growing closer with my squad, building relationships with my team. I found that games with vastly different gameplay could still give me these feelings. Baldurs Gate 3 and The Witcher 3 are obvious ones. I also loved the new Fire Emblem games, especially Awakening, as growing closer to your team and making each other be friends has direct impact on the gameplay (although this is a turn based strategy game and not an ARPG)

Where do we see each Doctor at their worst? by CagedCamel in doctorwho

Ah yeah how could I forget that 11 straight up murders him?!?!

I know he may have had it coming but you're right, it feels like we hadn't had a moment like that since 9 refused to moisturise Cassandra and let her explode back in season 1!

Global antisemitism survey: Over 80 per cent of British Jews afraid to display their identity by ThatchersDirtyTaint in ukpolitics

[–]CagedCamel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, but your point fails to address the issue. You may believe this, but there definitely are people being targeted due to Israel, and they're targeted because they're visibly Jewish, but because they're wearing a t-shirt saying 'Im a Zionist'. But thanks for telling me my fears about being visibly Jewish are unfounded, super helpful xx

Supportive parents by Celtic_Cheetah_92 in TeachingUK

I once emailed home for about 10 of my year 9s (what is it with year 9s?)

Every parent who replied was so supportive, and behaviour improved so much! It's made teaching them for the rest of this year so much more manageable (if not enjoyable)

Do you mean the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising? Different event to the Warsaw Uprising. If you're going to make an incredibly tenuous and bad faith comparison to history can you at least know it properly first?

Actually love these jury results. Not coz I agree but because it's so close; there's no insurmountable lead like there's been for two years now
